//In short, anxiety galore, and here's why. (Keeping in mind this is from my muse's perspective and does not necessarily match canon.)

Uncle Sokka is wacky and outgoing and that kind of demeanor gives Tenzin plenty of dread and anxiety as a kid because he's unpredictable and Tenzin does NOT want to be the center of Sokka's attention. Later on, even though he learns to appreciate Sokka and his personality and wouldn't trade him for the world, there's still a subtle knot in his stomach when Tenzin's around him.

Chief Beifong is down right intimidating, loud, and threatening. I mean, it's probably worse in his head, IT MIGHT NOT BE THO??? but that's how she comes across to him and that makes him anxious. and this does not change over time.

Fire Lord Zuko is intimidating in name and appearance, and also the firebending. As a kid he's especially afraid of firebending. so more anxiety there. But once he meets Zuko and gets to know him, it's a big relief to know he's much more on the same wavelength as Tenzin personality-wise, and he can relax around him. Zuko also helps diffuse the negative feelings young Tenzin has about firebending and Firebenders.

Aunt Suki is also intimidating. She keeps Tenzin on his toes because she has this sweet demeanor but also can get feisty and makes statements that you can't quite tell if it's suppose to be innocent or threatening. Regardless, Tenzin does not want to get on her bad side. He's also seen how she has Sokka wrapped around her finger.

Grandfather Hakoda and Great Grandfather Pakku are both intimidating in Tenzin's eyes, but Tenzin's also appreciative of how they include him in Water Tribe culture because it counters the feelings of imposter syndrome he used to experience when visiting the tribes.

Great Gran Gran Kanna was also intimidating just from her extremely old appearance the few times he met her as a kid. You know the kind of old I'm talking about. Like the, "how are you still breathing?" old. And her smile is one that gives baby Tenzin nightmares for days.

The more I stare at it the more it begins to look like absolute crap.

suki smiles down at a young tenzin, holding out a kyoshi-style fan for him to take. "your dad and i never had much of a chance to teach each other a few moves. but i think an airbender like you should have a fan, and know how to use it. what do you think?"

The twelve-year-old boy gently took the fan into his hands in wonder. It was heavier than he imagined. He opened and closed it a few times, noticing his reflection in the lacquered finish of the metal flaps. "It's not exactly traditional airbending, but... okay!" He couldn't hide his excitement.

"Aw, Teen Tenzin was kind of cute, like Lefty!" Kai said with a grin.

Chimes rang peacefully as Tenzin sat outside contemplating what happened a few days ago. He had broken up with his girlfriend. The emotions behind it still troubled him: frustration, irritation, and most of all, disappointment.

Tenzin huffed as the wood piece hit softly against the bells.
