Why we need more Lawyers
I have said it before and I will say it again, Taylor Swift was my reason for going to law school! I remember watching her in an interview years and years ago, when asked what her best advice was for new artists would be, she replied “GET A GOOD LAWYER!”. Even so, here we are, in a new world of streaming and downloads where artists new, small, and even the best in the world (Taylor) are struggling to own the art they created and developed for years. In a few months I will get to be an IP attorney to help new artists and inventors maintain and obtain the rights both creative and monetary to their works. Protection starts at the legislative level and in the protection that a contract can create. We need to work on how we treat our artists, we need to protect them and their creative work. This is a MASSIVE LOSS not only for Taylor but for the music industry at large. My heart is with Taylor, and I hope that this inspires many more young men and women alike to look into law school and look in intellectual property law and help keep our creatives safe!
