Meet another YAPtivist, Adam Rida!

My Bio: I’m an eighteen year old Greek Egyptian.  I joined Global Kids this school year. I lived in Egypt for fourteen years, then I moved to Italy to study aeronautics for two years, and finally I moved to the United States in June, 2012. Due to my experiences in different countries, I speak four languages, Arabic, English, Italian, and of course Greek.

My Educational Journey: I studied in Egypt from first to ninth grade, then i studied in Italy tenth and eleventh grade. I was supposed  to be a senior this year, but not all my credits were counted.  Only some of my credits were counted from Egypt and most credits from Italy were counted. I’ll be a senior next school year, of course it’s annoying, but being a Global Kid makes me forget this issue, and happy to have another year with them :)

Why I want to participate in the Global Kids Educational Justice YAP: All differences I found here, in the U.S, changed my view of many things including education. This year I had extra classes in my schedule plus summer school, to be on the right track and graduate next year. Logically, it’s not fair to take classes that you took already and passed with high grades, it’s not only boring, but personally,  I view it as teaching a teacher how to teach. I know many students and friends who faced, and are facing this issue with credits from other countries or even states not being counted. What I want to do, is try to make this issue, and many other issues that students face, less harmful, more fair, and more acceptable to them.

Something I am looking forward to trying/seeing/discovering in Chicago: I feel really bad, because It’s not possible for me to go to Chicago; due to my status, but I’ll be skyping in to participate. Anyway, I wish good luck to my fellows and friend with the conference, and the trip, while i’ll be enjoying my time at the office in NY :P
