notes of things i've noticed and the inspiration behind yui's base design!!!

so a lot of people might not know, but yui's design and lore are STEEPED in inspiration from the bosozoku subculture.

her main design inspiration was this bosozoku woman!

i will only briefly talk about the subculture itself and will link wiki articles on it at the end, since i don't want that to take up the majority of the post but i'd like to offer a resource to learn more!

the bosozoku subculture started way back in the 50s with returning japanese world war II veterans. it was a way for them to keep living the kamikaze lifestyle and deal with difficulty adjusting to the rapidly changing life in japan. main aspects of bosozoku were customizing/modifying bikes + reckless, dangerous driving that disturbed the public. early fashion was heavily inspired by its roots with war veterans mixed with the style of american greasers. over time, the style adapted as younger teens started joining and becoming more prominent than the original members.

i just wanted to rant about her base cosmetic, since it's very important to me!! and a lot of people seem to have the wrong idea about her design, saying she wouldn't have long nails because they're too impractical or that they prefer her with her natural hair. everything in her design has a purpose and a reason for being there!

i'm also currently reading a book that discusses the bosozoku subculture; how it started, the psychology and specifics of code within gangs, and first hand counts, so trust there will be a LOT more to come regarding my thoughts on that and how they relate to yui. i have a lot in my mind already, i just want to hold off until i get more information. thank you! :)

i'm going to be drawing and designing characters that show up in yui's lore and tomes :) starting with an unnamed flag marshal, who has about 5 seconds of screen time but is so gorgeous. link to the tome video she's from under the cut!!!

i want to finish all of these characters, and when they're all done i might clean them up and put them in a post together! idk, we'll see!

i really want to post these as i go because i engage with yui a LOT outside of just drawing her, but i don't post about it. i just write to myself in notebooks and docs the research i do and thoughts and headcanons and ideas i have...

i want to start showing more of my obsessed with yui and everything yui related side on here........ i hope that interests anyone at all. i think i'll make a tag specifically for yui ranting and posting that isn't JUST fanart of her standing in a void or kissing someone. yeah. i'll call it yui mims. thank my good friend aria for that. you can probably expect annoying ranting in the future. soon i'll also go back and add the tag to art pieces that are specifically about her :)
