Does the shrine speak of memory, or does it speak of history?
Stone steps, red pillars, weathered statues for guardians long forgotten; Makishima takes a breath of the air, runs his fingers along the aged wood, and decides, neither.
(It feels like watching a movie instead of reading the original book, he decides. What should be here is here, but there’s something missing--depth, context, the feeling of weight beneath his fingers. Yet again, what the world offers him tries too hard for something so simple.
How disappointing.)
“What is it you pray for, in this city? Or rather, to whom do you pray?”
In a place like this--what are gods to you?
