Well, you guessed it folks. winter has officially arrived up here in the mystical frozen Yukon. I'd been denying the allegations of snow from friends and family, finally it was time to investigate for myself. Cody and I decided to take the truck and head up Grey Mountain road, figuring that we could make it right to the top. However, this wasn't exactly the case. At first it was just a little snow, nothing intense. We were easily cruising along the road, enjoying the thin white layer scattered across leaves and rock. But as we progressed we soon realized we were not nearly as prepared for the winter wonderland we were approaching. Eventually it ended with us struggling until we backed down the mountain road to a safer turn around area and headed down again. Looks like Grey Mountain adventures will have to wait until next spring I suppose. But the first snowfall did make for some good photos with the contrast of fall colors. These were taken by Cody, of me.

I'd never done any type of photography with long exposure shutter speeds before until just recently. While in Dawson, Cody had the idea to do sparks photos (he'd done them in the past with good results so why not!) We found a local hardware store - one whisk, some steel wool, and a ball of rope later and we were in business! Once it was finally dark, we went down to the beach along the river near our campsite, armed with our earlier purchase as well as my camera, a tripod and a lantern, we were ready! I must say, I was so impressed with the turn out - love these photos. Cody was definitely right about these being awesome! I'm looking forward to more experiments with lights, shutter speed, etc! Especially with winter coming... That means Northern lights! Side note, in one of my sparks photos we had a little Aurora action in the sky too without even realizing until going back over photos later!
