Isn’t Yuri a pretty awful character from a writing standpoint? The devs were like we have to cram 20 different backstories into one 19 year old dude because he just has to be SO COOL.

This discussion about Yuri explains to me why I could never get invested in him as he is in canon. His life is so chockful with drama and tragedy that it’s hard to figure out what his character is even supposed to be about. It doesn’t help that there's so much that most of it ends up very underdeveloped, like his time as assassin, a sex worker or even his rise to a crime lord.

To be fair, Yuri's backstory is all over the place, not unlike most mary sues.

You're well within your rights to call him a gary stu, as you do have a case.
