I got this writing app called yWriter... it's pretty cool so far. I was having a problem getting the dark mode to work on it, and when I did manage to get it to work, it was more of a "gray mode" (which funnily enough, was also an option I could pick). Anyway, I decided to make my own dark mode with custom colors that was actually dark and easy to read, while keeping it as default as possible.

If anyone else out there is using yWriter, feel free to try out my dark mode theme. I couldn't really find a community forum or discord for yWriter users, but there's a tag for yWriter here.

yWriter - Favorite Freeware Writing Software

You may or may not be curious, but when it comes to my writing, I don’t use a simple word-processor in suites like like Windows Office, OpenOffice, or Google Docs. Instead, I actually primarily use a freeware, open-source novel-writing program called yWriter by Simon Haynes (SpaceJock Sofware).

I use the version for Windows 10 (yWriter7), but there are versions for Mac, Linux, Android, IOS, and potentially Mac OS.

I love this program because it makes it very easy to write chapter and organize scenes within each chapter. I can also create character/location/item listings with greater details outside of the actual story itself. I can also keep various outlines/drafts within each chapter so I can see how a story evolves over the course of writing out the chapter.

Here are a few screenshots of my current Elder Scrolls DC Project. If you are a fanfic writer and want a better program to write your stories in, you might want to give this one a try.

Making a valiant attempt at "zero drafting" this MariBat crossover idea to see how quickly I can get the ideas to flow in a sort of coherent fashion. Aiming for speed more than substance at this point. I do have a very rough outline in the Plotting section, so I'm not completely pantsing this, but definitely diving more into the deep end right off the bat more than I'm typically used to.

I also gotta finish the next bit of Elder Scrolls DC project this weekend. The part I'm working on is at about 75% complete.

I need a unique tag for this project.

Home of yWriter, the free novel-writing software

I recently re-discovered a freeware writing software that I used in the distant past (back when it was version 5 - now it’s version 7).

If programs like Scriviner are too expensive for you right now, but you want to have a program that allows you more organization than a Word or Google Doc document can provide while writing your stories, this could work out for you.

Here is a screenshot of what my current fanfic project I’m re-plotting (again *sigh*) looks like atm. 

I ended up reinstalling this software because in my current project the plotline I was trying to develop was just not “behaving itself” when I tried to write and share it like a pantser. So I’ve decided to plot it out in it’s entirety, and yWriter is becoming invaluable to this process.
