Utopia

In my opinion a building, the ideal place or state, or a visionary system of perfection can not be achieved. These buildings and areas take years to construct and to be made "perfect". These buildings take years to complete and they may be perfect for the time they were designed but many architectural advances are made in the years that these buildings are constructed. This make the buildings out of date by the time they are done being built. New and better ways of building and design are always found. When they are found after the start of construction of a building, they are not implemented in that building and therefore at the time of completion the building does not have the latest architectural and technological advances.

Greenough Reading

With the different talk about animals and their changes in the article, I feel like the evolution of architecture and animals can be compared. Obviously they are not nearly the same, but in the way that animals adapt and change features based on what they need to survive can be seen in architecture. Architecture continues to change to what people like to see and view as "beauty." New technology is a big part of this because these new devices and changes in technology allow for new and different things to be done that would have never been thought of before. Just like if someone saw dinosaurs in their time would not think that most animals would look the way they do today.

Lecture 5

We talked the different strategies for the growth of cities... and how Paris expanded from it's core and retrofitted it's core... but I feel like every city that expands has to expand from its core. When a city expands it has to spread out because it cannot go up. So i guess this is more of a question... but I just don't see how cities can really grow in other ways than just expanding from his core... Just something from the lecture that kind of confused me
