George a bit short as Zahed completes marathon comeback

It was truly a game of two halves, with the Englishman controlling the T and pushing his opponent out of his comfort zone again and again in the first two game, 27 and 26 minutes (although the second has 7m injury time for Zahed).

George was playing perfect squash, Egyptian style actually, whereas Zahed looked the more English of the two!

But I guess the hard work started to weigh in the Englishman’s legs: letting the third go quickly in 9m, he tried to reassert in the 4th, but the head was gone. Finding his game again, George was in the 5th until the end but the momentum was with the Experienced Egyptian who closed it down 11/8.

To be noted that in the 2nd, there was an injury break at 3/1 for Parker, about 7m, score was called when the two players came back on court, but the rally was stopped by the ref that was actually in the toilets… Who called the score, that’s what we want to know!!!!

“I can’t describe how happy I am to win after being 2-0 down.

“I haven’t played George before but I knew he was going to be dangerous and that it would be a tough match. I expected that it would go to five, there were a few decisions and then the injury caused me to lose a bit of concentration. But I knew I had to give it my best and make myself proud and in the end I played well. “I don’t know how long it took but it’s definitely more than one hour, so I’m happy with the win and tomorrow I can have a rest day and see who it will be between the winner of Willstrop and Lucas in the semis.

“He hit me with his knee in the back of my knee and it hurt. The physio told me that the pain would ease because I was still warm, it’s still there but I managed to play. It’s nothing bad but it made me lose concentration but I’m glad I made it and the rest day has come at a good time for me.”

“It’s really amazing to play in such a venue. I saw that the tournament was a successful one and I came because of that. It’s a very nice venue with a lot of people watching and it’s such a great tournament here.”
