And now for the promised holiday-shoot photos of ZEN!!!
The lower left photo where she is mostly hiding in the cup is the best picture I have taken yet to show the hole in her right ear. It is teardrop shaped, and she had it when I got her - probably a result of a fight with her sister (they were kept in the same cage together past the age when syrians should be separated because they didn’t sell quickly enough. I actually got Zen at a discount because she and her sister were older than all the other hamsters. Best deal ever! I would have paid so much more for this sweet gentle creature who always lives up to her name *swoon*). Here is a super-tight-cropping of that photo so you can see the ear better:
