There was more to him. More than he already shared. More than he even realized. More than she could imagine. If not for her meds, she likely could 10 times over. But she had taken them. So here they were, stuck in the moment.
She, digging a hole. Him, building a wall.
At least, there was one. Now... she didn’t know. She let him be. A melody came to mind. She knew the words but didn’t remember. Nothing came unless it was through digging. Much digging. Much searching. She couldn’t tell the difference between digging through her problems and digging deeper to wallow in them.
Maybe there was a difference with his type of walls he put up. One to keep out the pain, one to keep the pain in. Maybe it was one in the same, for now... much like hers.
Without their vice, there was no virtue. Least, that was how she saw it. Maybe one day that would change. Until then...
I dig my hole, you build a wall
I dig my hole, you build a wall
One day that wall is gonna fall
Gon' build that city on a hill
Gon' build that city on a hill
Someday those tears are gonna spill
So build that wall and build it strong
'Cause we'll be there before too long
Gon' build that wall up to the sky
Gon' build that wall up to the sky
Someday your bird is gonna fly
Gon' build that wall until it's done
Gon' build that wall until it's done
But now you've got nowhere to run
So build that wall and build it strong
'Cause we'll be there before too long
