Interesting that Zor-El was aware of his brother's plan for Kal but didn't approve. I can't imagine how that conversation went.

Jor-El: Ok, the planet is going to explode.

Zor-El: Uh huh.

Jor-El: So I'm going to send my son to another planet to save him.

Zor-El: With you so far.

Jor-El: And the yellow sun will give him great power to conquer the world so he can take a harem of wives to repopulate the Kryptonian species.

Zor-El: And you lost me.

i'll bet almost anything that as zor-el was loading his daughter into the rocket he said, just as an aside, "hey just a heads up your weird uncle is also sending his son to this planet and you'll need to make sure he hasn't been told to overthrow the native civilizations or amass some kind of freaky harem. okay ilu sweetie good luck out there!" and when kara actually made it to earth she learned that her weird uncle's message didn't make it and her cousin is just a normal well adjusted dorky boy scout, breathed a single sigh of relief, and promptly set about self-medicating.

I just finished reading the trade for Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton. Between that story (which is excellent), Superman Smashes the Klan, and the Superman: Red and Blue anthology, I've only become more convinced that any modern creator portraying Krypton-raised Kryptonians as (almost) uniformly villainous or "morally ambiguous" has latent xenophobic beliefs.

Something I like about New Krypton is that it starts off so strong painting New Krypton as a group that is just grateful to survive. Their culture is kind, open, and gracious until the realization that Earth is not a safe haven for them. 😭

Look at Zor-El’s face when he says Earth. An engineer in trade and artisan by guild that man wants to know what Earth has to offer. Allura’s only question is how would powers improve Kandor. Look at the goofy Kandorians pretending they are in an aircraft.

Zor smiling that they can’t be hurt again. Faith that an entire culture will be careful and that they will be friends to earth.

It is 1000x better than evil colonist Krypton and would have been the best canon krypton for the merged timelines because it merges really well with what we know about golden and silver age Krypton. The type of planet that planted food on every road so its people wont starve. Kara first thought to be a guardian angel is because of her culture. Her naivety coming from the fact that lived in near utopia plagued mostly by natural disasters. It merges well with New52 Kara being scared and uncomfortable on arrival. There is probably an easier way to write Kara’s reactions to landing in Gotham post-crisis to match.

I like that the Supergirl movie more or less confirms that literally not another soul on Krypton saw that their planet was dying and thought 'let's send our kid into deep space to go rule another planet as a god'. Like, Zor-El just sorta let his weird brother do all of that while he went and invented a force field to preserve as much of Krypton as possible. Jor-El and Lara were literally just hardcore doomsday truthers who went too far.

I do love how in Supergirl movie, Zor-el and Alura roasted the fuck out of Jor-el and his wife being the crazy fascist doomsday preppers. Like the whole Superman's harem thing is not the Kryptonian thing. It's just a Jor-el thing.
