Superhope’s campaign with Lucile Packard Medical Center at Stanford University was in a new city filled with new challenges and opportunities. We were thrilled when such a prestigious hospital believed in us. Our campaign with Great Ormond Street gave us an opportunity to fly to London to work with some incredible Superheroes. When we first started Superhope (@superhope_org) in 2014 we had nothing but an idea for what we wanted to do. No resources, no funding, no big contacts, just a passion for wanting to empower children battling Cancer. I lost my Grandmother to the disease and it hit me pretty hard to loose someone so dear to me to something like that. I knew I had a responsibility from then on to help those effected by it. What we set out to do with Superhope was no small task, we needed the trust of Hospitals, Partners, Parents and above all the Patients to believe in us with zero track record in healthcare or working with sick children. I remember one day driving two hours to meet with the hospital that gave us the opportunity to launch Superhope, in the meeting she looked at both my Co-Founder and I and said, “I like what you are doing, but I could not find you on the Google” we laughed inside and said yes we’re new but we’ll deliver 100%, we just need you to trust us and that she did and the rest is history. We’ve since worked with Major Hospitals from around the world including: Tawam, UAE, Stanford Childrens, Orange County Childrens Hospital and Great Ormond Street in London and many more on the way. For those that don’t know, I Co-Founded Superhope (@superhope_org) back in 2014, an initiative that works with children battling Cancer from around the world. The Superhope team along with Comic Book Illustrators, Hollywood Costume Designers, Fashion Photographers, Film Directors and dozens of other creatives work with each child to customize and transform them into their very own superheroes. We do this to power boost their Positive Mental Attitude fueled by their creativity as a way to help kids fight and shield them from the disease. Burning Man: Weather on the playa is often violent and unpredictable. Dust storms, high winds, freezing temperatures, rain, we get it all out there. It's impossible to be overly prepared when it comes to the elements. On this day all 8 of us were caught for hours in a massive dust storm, barely able to see just a few feet in front of us. All the while, our incredible crew kept their cool throughout our journey like a true team. As we trekked through the harsh conditions we allowed ourselves to remain in awe by the strange beauty the storm provided. From the dust we were presented with love, music and magic. All things that were perfect in the moment. This particular photo was captured in a gust of clarity and embodies our path forward on Playa and off. 🖤 Ain't no Magic like that Playa Magic. For many couples who attend Burning Man together, Black Rock City is the obvious choice when they choose to tie the knot. While the unpredictable desert can be an unusual venue for a couple’s big day, the couples who have wedded in BRC reflect on their ceremonies with fondness, and most of them emphatically insist that it was the perfect spot for their matrimony. In 2015 I was blessed to be invited to a friends Playa wedding at the Lotus Temple. The authenticity of her hand written invite delivered in person to our camp along with the joy in her eyes excited me to attend. When the day arrived I had her wedding details on hand and my clean white wedding attire packed ready to set off on a pre-adventure. Well, in a place where time doesn't exist, my journey took me on a spontaneous detour filled with connection, laughter and inner exploration, leading me to miss the wedding. While it's understood that 'Playa Plans' are not always made I did always remember missing that moment.. This year however, after having just spent hours in the eye of a storm I was taken on yet another detour, this time presented with a light, an opportunity to witness a moment of eternal commitment. As if it were a gift being revealed through the settling dust. As I sat there in awe feeling like I had just stumbled upon a mirage, I witnessed two souls transparently committing their lives to one another. As the stranger got down on bended knee he created a ripple of happiness for all of those that were witness to this special moment, a moment that I'm proud to have been a part of. While it was not my friends wedding it was beautiful and just right. As always, the Playa provides. 🖤 Let your Love Burn forever. (at Black Rock City)
