Rosalie Hale Style Moodboard
I love Rosalie’s character so much. In the movies she wore a lot of tailored blazers, heels, and vintage inspired dresses.
I imagine human Rosalie being put together, the kind of girl who would own a matching hat for every dress she owned. Her sense of style would continue even when she was turned into a vampire. Doing her hair and makeup and dressing up everyday is something that would help her feel connected to her human days.
I think she’d be drawn to classic brands like Ralph Lauren and Dior. I also like to imagine she has a couple of jumpsuits she saves for when she works on cars.
Might go back to making more moodboards✨
In fact all of them love the saga but some people cof cof Daniel will never admit it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The debate over whether Bella’s depression in New Moon was reasonable or not has always been wild to me.
First of all, I’m sorry but if I had a dream that I wanted as badly as Bella wanted hers, had it so close, and had it ripped away so suddenly (being told it’s my fault) I too would have fallen into a severe depression. That sucks. Having this otherworldly experience, having the reasonable belief you could live a fantasy of being young with your beautiful lover for eternity, only to be unceremoniously dumped back into the real world? That sucks!!!!!! Didn’t Doctor Who do a whole thing about post-adventure depression in companions?
Also, much more importantly: depression doesn’t need to be justified. It’s not always reasonable. Sometimes depression just happens for reasons that make little to no sense.
So when the protagonist of a love story falls into depression when her love interest leaves her, I think “yeah, no shit”
This is getting notes again and I want to clarify that while I said real-life depression is not always reasonable or logical, this does not apply to Bella. Bella’s depression did make sense and fit the narrative.
Like. Ok. Bella had an extreme reaction to her break-up?? Her sudden break-up in her supernatural romance in which she formed a very deep connection with a very dramatic man in a very dramatic fashion?? That Bella Swan went from an extreme high to an extreme low?? Kitchen found in Forks
I brought up the fact that depression does not always make sense irl because the depiction of Bella’s depression was (and still is) one of the more poignant and relatable depictions of depression you’ll see in the genre. It does feel like time is slipping away (see: blank chapter months). It does feel like you’re dealing with a death, whether it’s someone else’s or the death of the non-depressed self (who felt like a totally different person to yourself and your loved ones). It does have phases and stages where you’re able to perform normality some days better than others. You do feel guilty when your friends’ best efforts to cure you just aren’t enough. You do fluctuate between numbness and pain. You do start to mentally belittle yourself for being unfixable; you get so frustrated because you should be okay by now but you just aren’t. You do start to feel ambivalent-at-best about your own fate.
Good fiction gives you realistic feelings in even the most unrealistic of circumstances. Smeyer’s writing leaves a lot to be desired but imo she nailed Bella’s depression. She took the outlandish circumstance of losing your eternal future with your vampire lover and made the reaction relatable as hell. Even if the depression was disproportionate or illogical (which, again, I’m arguing it’s not), it would still get a pass for being so true to form imo
The thought of dating a human like Mike who would love you in the same boring way any teenager boy would compared to a vampire who has given you his non-beating heart and soul would depress me too!!! I GET YOU BELLA!!!
Sam and the Clearwater family dynamic is not talked about enough for something that would have had such an impact on both parties. I mean Sam and Leah dated for what was it — 3 years? That’s no short amount of time, especially when it comes to something like a high school romance. It’s clear they were crazy about one another and probably spent a lot of time together. This would obviously mean that Sam was around the Clearwater’s a lot.
Take in to account the fact that it’s canon Sam grew up without a father around and the fact that Harry Clearwater was a very kind man … do we really think those two wouldn’t get along? I mean sure, Harry was probably weary of Sam when he first started dating Leah. He didn’t want to see his little girl get hurt by anyone but in time when Sam began to show more of himself, proved his worth and became a token add on to the Clearwater house, things would have changed greatly. In the end, Harry Clearwater was probably the closest thing Sam Uley had ever had to a real father figure. And because of this, Harry’s sudden and all too tragic death would have been something that hit Sam hard. He didn’t just loose an elder — he lost family, and at a point when he had so little left to begin with.
Being around the Clearwater house a lot would also mean that Sam was around Seth a lot. Not to mention that being the eldest sibling, Leah was probably forced on more than one occasion to take a young Seth with her when she went out, usually with Sam. The two boys would have seen a lot of one another … and given Seth’s too easy to love sunshine type personality and Sam’s own devotion to Leah and their possible future together, the boys would have got along well. It would have been like gaining the little brother Sam never knew he needed.
Sue Clearwater would have been a harder sell than Harry but I genuinely believe once she realized just how happy Sam made Leah as well as had seen what a good guy Sam was, she would have welcomed him with open arms. Suddenly she was the one trimming his hair when his own mother was too distant or distracted to do so and the one sitting up late at night helping Leah paint signs for Sam’s basketball games. And just like with Harry and Seth, Sue would have been family to him.
This would mean that when Leah and Sam were forced to break up, Sam wouldn’t have just lost her but also a whole family whose support he would have come to rely on over the years. A family who — with the exception of his mom, would have been all he really had at the time. And sure, he had Emily after that but she was still a stranger. Not only that but she was also someone he had accidentally hurt and disfigured, as well as someone he felt he had for taken away from her own family.
Sam would have seen his imprint to Emily as not just a betrayal to Leah but to the Clearwater family as a whole. Even though he and Harry knew it was well beyond Sam’s own accord, it wouldn’t changed the fact that within just mere minutes he had blown up the four bonds he had spent years working hard to build.
After all how do you look the woman who made you soup when you were sick and hand delivered it to you in the eyes after you left her only daughter with a broken heart and started dating her cousin instead? Sue didn’t know the truth, she didn’t understand. To her, Sam would have just been another cruel teenage boy who changed on the fly. And what about the younger boy who you spent so many days teaching to do a layup because he wanted to be just like you? What happens when you run into him in at market and for the first time since you’ve met, you see a look of sadness in his eyes as he retreats to the other side of the store in order to get away from you? Seth didn’t know Sam couldn’t control it, he didn’t understand. To him, Sam was just a jerk who chose to break his sisters heart. And what about Harry? How do you deal with seeing him almost every day after what happened? Sure he knows, he knows Sam couldn’t control it. He knows Sam had no choice in the matter. He knows but he can’t understand it, not when it’s his little girl at home crying in bed.
Sam probably never imagined that he would get back what he once had with the Clearwaters … and then Leah and Seth phased and for a second, maybe just a second, he had some little ounce of hope. But of course it doesn’t go as planned and it isn’t okay the way he wants it to be and he can’t even blame them for that. Seth warms up to him — mostly because he’s just excited to be a wolf but he’s still distant at best. But now everything for him is about Jacob and for some reason that stings Sam more than it should. And of course Leah never warms up to him and Sam isn’t sure what’s worse; the fact that she never does or the fact that he wants her to. The months that follow aren’t great but they are better, at least somewhat. Even Sue begins to come around and gifts him a small, pitiful smile when she sees him before looking away. But all of that is short lived because just when it seems like maybe he is putting his family back together the way it once was, Seth and Leah leave him and joined Jacob’s pack.
So it ends just the way it started … with Sam on the outside of the family he was once a big part of. And sure, he has his own pack now and Sam wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world, but it’s not the same. It’s not the family he first found all on his own and worked so hard to make. They’re not the ones who cheered him on, who helped him heal, who picked him up when he was down and made him laugh until his sides hurt. They didn’t take him fishing to bond or slip him extra chocolate chip cookies. They didn’t beg him to stay just an hour longer or invite him to be apart of every tradition and gathering. It’s not the same and it hurts.
