âTaylor, I thought I recognised you. How are you? What have you been up to?â Casanova asked and looked around. Maybe the middle of the pavement was not the best place for a catch up. âShall we get a coffee or a drink and catch up? If you are free that is,â he asked wanting to catch up with his sister.
Taylor smiled, and without even thinking about it, flung her arms around her brother.
âCass!â He was her older brother but barely. In vampire terms they were almost twins. âYes, Iâm free! Iâve missed you, dude.âÂ
@alexander-adams
âKnock, knock.â She said softly, waiting outside the door patiently.
âSLUMBER PARTY!!!â The baby vampire yelled as he burst into the room, his arms full of cookies and other sweets that he could only eat on a night like this when Marcus had to stay at the hospital all night. âDo you want to start with Frozen or Lion King first?â
Taylor sat up in her bed and laughed a bit, shaking her head at her best friend. âFrozen, obviously,â then she pointed to the amounts of sweets in his arms, âYouâre going to puke loads if you eat all that.â She knew that he had done it before, but she still felt the need to warn him, though she wouldnât dare stop him. âBlanket fort in the living room?â
âGods itâs boring hereâI want to leave. You donât have any good games, not even Monopoly,â the ancient whined, righting his gaze upon the other. âCome. I insist,â he added, hopping up onto his feet before he brushed off his jeans and straightened out the shirt, one he casually stole from one of his progenies. âWeâll go find a store that sells Jenga.â
Taylor lounged on the couch near her grandsire, rolling her eyes at the mention of games. âWell we did have it, but Augustus threw it in the fire.â It was a long story, and stupid. Glancing up to him as she stood, she pulled herself to her feet as well. âJenga? Itâs been a while since Iâve played that.â

âAugustus, I lived in a nation with shitty water, I know how to tell the difference.â Besides, she had already drank from it and she was standing just fine. âPlus I already drank from it earlier. Now please, I donât want you to die, as irritating as you are. If youâre that worried though, break a vine and drink the water from it.â
He huffed, stomping up to walk by her side, his arms crossed and his face set in a scowl. âIf I get sick, Iâm killing you first.â
âWhatever floats your boat, Auggie,â She said, irritation gone, she won the little argument. âAnd if you see any shelter, feel free to tell me about it.â
It was always the most mundane days that worried Marcus. The days where everything went smoothly, where he had no dramatic outbursts from his children, where he was able to get through every surgery without a hitch, where he did not have to lecture Kurtis too much about indulging during work hours, where he was not overly tempted to strangle every living creature, those were the days that sparked a deeply rooted anxiety. Nothing good lasted. The universe had a way of balancing itselfâand now, now tables turned again.
He was out, dressed in clothing that made fighting and defending himself a bit easier than while in a suit, as much as he loathed to say it. Being human, with the heart pounding in his chest, he already felt too confined in his own body and he couldnât risk restraining himself ever more with a bloody suit. He was well equipped, or as well as he could muster. It was not surprising how easily his training came back to him, though it was years ago he served in the Athenian army. He fashioned himself two spears, and a small âbladeâ he kept secured in his belt. All technology seemed to be wiped away, and to be frank, that suited Marcus just fine.
Nature rustled and whispered around him, sweetly cooing of lurking dangers tucked away in the shadows. He had already killed several beasts and was coated in dried, deep reddish brown remnants of the encounters. Horrific, but nothing he could not handle. He was probably one of the few adequately trained to handle himself in this situation, but he knew that the majority of his children, without their abilities, were not in the same fortunate boat. And the thought of Alexander as a human again⊠It did not settle well. He pressed forward in his search, only occasionally giving a harsh, rugged call out for his family. He alternated names, but felt that perhaps it would be enough for one of them to just hear his voice.
âAlexander! Kaitleen!â He should not have been so loud, but it was very unlikely he would be able to track down his progenies without some sort of verbal prompting.
She was in a tree. Though granted the tree was not the safest place, Taylor felt some sense of comfort being able to glance down at anything that came near her. She had already seen some large cat like creature prowl by, but she knew how to be quiet, and had hugged the large tree trunk so tightly in effort to keep from rustling anything, she now had small cuts on her hands and arms. Not that she minded. Cuts were better than a large cat trying to eat her.Â
Her heartbeat was the most interesting aspect, at first, it had pounded so loudly, she had thought one might hear it outside of her chest, the initial shock of the jungle taking her over, but as time passed, she eased into her calmer demeanor, though her search for family and friends was something she continued slowly, carefully going from tree to tree. Thank gods she was agile as a human.
It wasnât until a loud voice, one she almost had memorized, broke through her silent dance with nature, that she almost faltered on her current branch. Only two names were spoken, but she knew her father like the back of her hand. Slowly, Taylor descended from the tree, being sure to rustle leaves so her father would glance at her before being scared and believing her to be a deadly creature. That wouldnât be a fun story to tell. âI should be hurt you arenât calling my name.â She teased softly, though she knew he had many children, and would go hoarse calling all of them at once. âI havenât been able to find anyone either.â
Augustus scowled, tossing his cigarette onto the ground and stomping after his sister. âIf we get poisoned from the disgusting water, we die, too. Did you think of that or are you just too stupid?â
âAugustus, I lived in a nation with shitty water, I know how to tell the difference.â Besides, she had already drank from it and she was standing just fine. âPlus I already drank from it earlier. Now please, I donât want you to die, as irritating as you are. If youâre that worried though, break a vine and drink the water from it.â
Augustus shot her a withering look, unwilling to admit that he was incredibly happy to see at least once of his siblings. âYouâre proposing that we walk through this hazard so we can drink river water?â he asked, looking repulsed.
âIf you donât drink, you die, simple as that. So yes, I am proposing that, so follow me.â
âFuck you!â Augustus screamed at the thing that rustled in the shadows. He picked up a rock and threw it in the direction where he heard the noise, though he probably threw inaccurately given the fact that his senses were horribly reduced. How did humans see anything? How did they get anything done? His heart was beatingâ his heart was beatingâ so hard that he felt it ram up against his ribcage. Augustus was so afraid, and he hated it. Moving around wasnât an option: he would probably trip and ruin his suit, his hands, his hair. So he just stood there, smoking because there was nothing better to do, waiting for this to end.
âShut up.â She said simply, coming out from the shrubbery with a wince, she had cut her arm on something unknown, and was still grumpy about it. Not only was her heart beating, but she wasnât healing. It was hell. âI found a fucking river, are you coming with or not, because we actually have to drink water now.â Despite their fights, she still cared about her sibling, and did not wish for him to die.
Alex just smiled bigger. âYeahâŠyeah I am. My mom screamed when I told her. Valentine thought something was wrong by how loud she was.â True story. âIâm not wearing a dress for the wedding but yes please! We can take pictures too.â Â
âAww, I bet that was great though.â she said with a smile, âI didnât think you were, I just know that you would have fun trying some on.â
âWho said I was getting married?â He tried to tease all serious and failed. The smile on his face gave it away. âWe can play yes to the dress!â
âOh puh-lease, I know youâre getting married, donât play coy.â She laughed. âOh my god, Iâm picking out dresses for you to try on, and you can pick mine. It will be great.â
@alexxanders-adams
âHey, so if youâre getting married, I have to get a dress, and since youâre my best friend, youâre coming with.â
âWhat?I just wanted to know what was in the box,am I not allowed to knowâAndreas said as he placed the slightly open lid of the box back down. âIs it a present for somebody?â
âUm, actually, itâs just a shipment of lingerie I ordered, if you really wanna look, feel free I guess.â
âMm, then throw it away,â Marcus gave as he moved to the cabinet, pulling down a small box of tea. âIs that so?â He asked, carefully pocketing a few packets. âYou know it would be very helpful to have you around,â he told her, âWe are a bit understaffed.âÂ
Taylor quickly tossed the rotten milk into the trashcan, making a face at the fact that it went unnoticed so long. âIâve missed it, to be perfectly honest, and working at La Palais, as nice as it is, just isnât as fun as I thought it to be.âÂ
âWell, good morning. Would you kindly put the milk away when you have finished? It smells as though it is already on the verge of spoiling.â
âHm?â
âI think it expired yesterday, actually, I was checking it before I decided to consume it. Good morning to you too.â She said cheerfully, it had been a while since she had seen her father. âIâve been meaning to tell you, I believe I might go back to work as a nurse at the hospital.â
