NALA, a #Tanzanian-founded fintech firm, has secured a credit line facility worth up to $50 million from private credit firm Liquidity despite that it still has more than half of the cash left from its 2024 $40 million equity round.
This $50 million deal starts with an initial $25 million tranche. The company says the deal can expand beyond $50 million depending on growth and transaction volume.
The funding will help NALA pre-fund payments, expand payment corridors, support larger enterprise clients, and process bigger transaction volumes.

You now need to pay to use some features on #WhatsApp, #Instagram, and #Facebook. #Meta has rolled out paid monthly subscription tiers for many features across its social media platforms.
These subscriptions introduce a “freemium” structure where basic usage remains free, but certain enhanced tools, customization options, and engagement features are locked behind a paywall.
Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are getting new features that will be placed behind a paywall.
South African motorists may soon be able to apply for a digital driving licence before receiving the country’s long-awaited new physical driving licence card, whose rollout has already been delayed by more than two years.
Since 1998, South Africans have relied on laminated plastic driving licence cards, which replaced the paper-based licences previously printed in the old green identity book.
Now, the government is moving toward a digital driving licence system that will allow motorists to store and access their licences electronically through a mobile platform.

Draft regulations for the system were published in May 2026 and prototype has already been launched.
There are currently 160 bank branches where #SouthAfricans can get a smart ID card, 32 of which also support passport applications.
Using one of these branches to obtain these documents will eliminate the traditional pain points of dealing with #HomeAffairs, such as long queues, repeated visits, and the need to travel far to government offices, especially for people in rural or busy urban areas.
In addition, it removes the need for some appointment bottlenecks and informal “assistance” people previously relied on to navigate the system. You can now apply for your Smart ID or passport in any of the bank branches because not all banks support this system.
Here's the complete list of 160 South African bank branches offering the #smartID card and passport services:
The bank branches are Capitec (78), Standard Bank (56), FNB (11), Nedbank (7), Absa (6), Discovery (1), and Investec (1).
You can now listen to long-form magazine articles on #Spotify. The streaming platform is expanding its audiobook library by adding long-form magazine articles that are converted into narrated audio. The first rollout includes over 650 long-form narrated articles.

The #EU is preparing to hit #Google with what could become one of the largest penalties ever issued under its new Digital Markets Act (DMA), potentially a high triple-digit million euro amount, possibly reaching €1 billion, as part of an #antitrust investigation.
However, the regulator says the goal is compliance, not punishment, and it is willing to escalate matters if Google fails to comply with #DMA rules.

It would be the largest penalty the EU has ever imposed for a breach of its Digital Markets Act (DMA).

It has occurred twice that Peach Payments—a fast-growing African payment service provider (PSP)—act fast to become the first PSP to operationalise merchant acceptance whenever Apple Pay enters into a market. The company did it when #ApplePay entered the #SouthAfrican market, it has done it now in Mauritius.
What I see in this scope of operation is that the company is taking competitive advantage in emerging markets to build stronger partnerships with banks, retailers, and enterprise merchants before wider market adoption accelerates.

I am amazed by the way OPAY is reducing the unemployment rate in Nigeria. The company is not only making a name for itself in the country, but it is also quietly creating a pathway for everyday Nigerians to earn legitimate income through its card sales agent system.
Nigeria is a country where many young people are searching for opportunities. OPAY understands this and goes beyond just offering POS terminals to them. It also allows them to buy the OPAY Debit Card for just N100 directly from the company and resell it to customers at profitable rates.
I believe that on your street, you may have seen some card sales agents selling their OPAY cards for as low as N500 and some for as much as N1000. That is the minimum and maximum price you can sell the OPAY card you bought for just N100.
So, the profit margin is wide, and the most interesting thing is that you do not even have to be an agent before you can start selling OPAY cards.
What makes this opportunity powerful is that it does not require a shop, expensive equipment, or large capital. Students, graduates, small business owners, and even unemployed youths can turn simple daily interactions into a steady stream of income while also helping more people gain access to easy and secure banking services.
Beyond the income itself, this initiative is helping to reduce unemployment by empowering people to become self-employed instead of waiting endlessly for white-collar jobs.
