I recently spent way too much time comparing automatic cat feeders, and honestly, most of them sound great until you start digging into the details. Here are the ones that stood out to me and the things I liked (and didn't like) about each.
Are stainless steel litter boxes better? Wondering which metal cat litter box is the best? Discover the purr-fect solution for maintaining a clean and odor-free environment with the stainless steel cat litter box.
I started paying closer attention when I noticed my cat seemed a little thinner than usual, even though she was eating regularly. It got me wondering whether the food itself was the issue. If your cat is looking underweight, finding the right food can make a bigger difference than most people realize. I'm interested to see which options actually help cats put on healthy weight without just loading them up with empty calories.
I’ve seen a lot of people putting AirTags on their cats lately and I’m honestly curious if they’re actually reliable once a cat starts roaming far from home. I know cheaper than GPS trackers, but do they work well enough if your cat gets out or goes missing for a few hours? Feels like they work great in theory until the cat ends up somewhere with almost no iPhones. Anyone here actually test one out for the long haul?
From stray rescues to recovering from illness, there are plenty of reasons a cat may be underweight. Before making major changes to their diet, though, it’s always smart to talk to your veterinarian, especially if the weight loss was sudden or unexplained. Once you know what’s going on, the right food can make a huge difference.
I finally tried Smalls Cat Food after seeing people talk about it nonstop online, and honestly I get why people like it.
For context, I have 5 cats, and feeding them is always a gamble because they all randomly decide what they hate every week. I’ve bought expensive food before that ended up untouched, so I was expecting at least one of them to reject this immediately.
Surprisingly, they all ate it.
The first thing I noticed was the texture. I ordered both the Smooth and Pulled versions because I already knew my cats would probably disagree on which one was better. The Smooth one is closer to regular pâté, while the Pulled recipes actually look like shredded meat. Most of mine preferred the Smooth texture, but one cat kept going for the Pulled chicken.
The food itself also just looked fresher than most wet food I’ve bought before. You can actually recognize the ingredients instead of opening a can and wondering what you’re looking at. It also didn’t have that overly processed smell some cat foods have.
I was looking through funny cat name ideas earlier and some of them were way more creative than the usual “Luna” and “Milo” lists that every site repeats over and over.
A few of the ones that actually made me laugh:
Catastrophe The Great Catsby Catticus Finch Furmione Hairy Potter Cat Damon Catsanova Furlock Holmes Catzilla KitKat Sir Purrs Alot Giggles Winky-Tink The Cat Formerly Known as Purr-ince
I also forgot how funny human names on cats can be for no reason at all. Like imagine meeting a cat named Fred.
The article also grouped them into categories which honestly made it easier to find names depending on the vibe you want. There were pun names, movie references, food names, literary names, chaotic names, old man names, dramatic names, all that stuff.
I think the funniest ones are the names that sound completely serious until you actually say them out loud. Now I kind of want to rename half the cats I know.
When I first saw the PetPace smart collar, I honestly thought it was just another GPS tracker for cats with a few extra features thrown in. But after reading more about it, it actually seems a lot more focused on health tracking than location tracking.
The collar tracks things like your cat’s temperature, breathing rate, pulse, sleep, activity, stress levels, and overall behavior patterns throughout the day. What I found interesting is that it’s apparently built specifically for cats, not just a smaller version of a dog tracker, so the data and monitoring are supposed to be based around normal feline behavior and vitals.
What made the biggest difference for me in understanding the product is that it doesn’t just collect random numbers. Over time, it learns what’s normal for your cat specifically. So if your cat suddenly starts sleeping more, moving less, breathing differently, or acting off in subtle ways, the app can supposedly pick up on those changes earlier.
I started looking into wet cat food because one of my cats suddenly decided the food she’d eaten for months was apparently unacceptable overnight. I figured it would be simple, but the deeper I looked, the more confusing it got because every brand claims they’re “premium” while half the reviews are people saying their cat refused to even sniff it.
I always thought polydactyl cats were super rare, but apparently they’re more common than I realized. They’re basically cats born with extra toes because of a genetic mutation, and some can end up with huge mitten-looking paws because of it.
What surprised me most is that the extra toes usually don’t cause major health problems on their own. Most of them live completely normal lives. The main thing owners seem to watch out for is nail care since the extra toes can make some nails harder to notice or more likely to grow inward if they’re not trimmed regularly.
I also didn’t know there’s actual history behind them. Sailors apparently loved polydactyl cats back then because they believed the extra toes made them better climbers and mousers, plus they were considered good luck on ships. That’s also part of why people call them “Hemingway cats” since Ernest Hemingway famously kept a bunch of them.
Another thing I found interesting is how different the paws can look from cat to cat. Some only have one or two extra toes, while others basically look like they have thumbs.
Ever watched your fluffy giant squeeze into a box that was clearly meant for a smaller cat and thought, Nope, this isn’t cutting it? You’re not weird, big cats actually need more space to turn, dig, and do their thing the way nature intended. Standard litter boxes are often just too short or narrow, which makes it awkward for a large Maine Coon, Ragdoll, or other long‑bodied kitty to pivot and bury properly. Most cats instinctively circle and reposition before going, and when the box doesn’t give them room, they end up backing out awkwardly, kicking litter everywhere, or even peeing over the edge. That’s not bad aim , it’s geometry.
If you’re a cat parent, this one caught me off guard a bit. It seems that the Litter-Robot is now FSA/HSA eligible, which means that some people can use their health spending accounts to buy it. At first, it sounds a little strange, like how does a litter box count? But it makes more sense when you think about how it can help people with allergies, asthma, pregnancy risks, or even back pain that makes scooping litter a pain.
Automatic cat doors are like your traditional manual ones, but with a high-tech twist, offering a range of features that your old-school flaps lack. They’re a godsend for cat owners, boasting cool perks like electronic activation via your cat’s microchip implant, a magnetic collar, or RFID cat door, perfect for keeping certain cats indoors. With automatic locking systems and timers, you can set boundaries and keep your feline friends in when needed.
If you’ve got more than one cat, you already know how fast litter boxes can turn into a nightmare. A self-cleaning litter box sounds amazing in theory, but will it actually keep up with multiple cats? Some boxes promise to handle the chaos, but in practice, things like clumps, tracked litter, and different cats’ habits can make them fall short.
So I ended up trying the Maven smart collar on my cat for a couple weeks and I’m still kinda deciding where I land on it.
First impression, it was easier to set up than I expected. I thought it was going to be one of those things where you spend an hour figuring it out, but it was pretty straightforward. Attach it, plug in the base thing, connect to WiFi, done.
I feel like cat vomiting is one of those things everyone just kind of shrugs off… until it starts happening more than usual.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a pet parent to five cats (Zoe, Alex, Leia, and our two youngest, Luke and Lily), it’s that lugging heavy bags of litter home from the store gets old fast. Between managing multiple litter boxes and juggling a full schedule, keeping fresh litter stocked was starting to feel like a full-time job.
