“Percy’s special”

Oh I’m not gonna make it.

Seeing this kind of bullying in tv (actual realistic bullying, most people won’t like, push you and hit you or anything, since that way they’ll get caught, so they keep it simple and nobody does anything because they don’t see it as bullying) just took me back to school and holy shit. The way Nancy Bobofit pronounces the word special, like if it was disgusting, I think that’s very important representation. Because we know Percy has adhd, of course we know, but in the later books this fact has been pushed aside. Rick doesn’t really add much adhd traits and struggles in his books compared to in his first book. And meanwhile I knew about Percy’s time in school, seeing it is so so different and it’s not often bullying is shown this way and seeing a story of a bullied character, who’s deemed weird and “special” who then goes and saves the world and has lots of friends and a romantic partner, that’s really important for kids. For kids and for me. I’ll shut up I’m sorry I just have lots of feelings about it like I get it percy, I get it.

I'm absolutely in love with the first 2 episodes, but I hate that they are down playing Percy's intelligence!

Percy is SMART!!!!

He figures out so many things on his own in the books that are being explicitly explained to him in the show. He definitely fits the bill to be our resident beloved himbo, and is constantly using it to his advantage, but he is far from being stupid. While he might not be an expert on mythology, he's a fast learner and uses the knowledge he gains to navigate his new world more effectively.

Moments like when Grover mentioned that his mom isn't actually gone really affect the decisions he first made for his quest. I get that the creators wanted to make sure the audience knows that his mom was his main reason for going on this journey, but there could've been another way to show this while still maintaining Percy's agency.

It also diminishes the first real showing of his fatal flaw. His loyalty to his mother is one of the main pillars that make up his character. While they displayed that loyalty and adoration in other ways (I will never recover from him praying to her in the woods or the "I'm Sally Jackson's son" moment), Grover having to intentionally implant the idea that they can bring her back because she is not really dead does undermine Percy's unwavering determination in the book to bring her back regardless of if she is truly dead or not.

no cause like, the way they've turned gabe into this pathetic excuse of a man really got on my nerves. He's silly, almost idiotic in the show. I'm not saying that Sally should be mistreated but enduring what happened out of love for percy and how she breaks free from that abusive situation are intrinsically linked to gabe being this RAT

can't believe they'll do that to Sally and I hope I'm wrong and he'll eventually be what he's in the books (?) sounds unlikely though

i’m not the biggest will solace person but like. why don’t we actually talk about how much he went through?

wasn’t his cabin numbers essentially cut in half during the titan war? didn’t he lose an older brother at 11? didn’t he lose another at 12? didn’t he become head counselor at 13 too? wasn’t he the most important medic?

like will lost half of his cabin. half of his siblings. the apollo cabin was the biggest or second biggest and then they became one of the smallest, right? he lost lee and who knows how his cabin grieved. he lost michael and imagine him coming up to percy after the meeting on olympus, asking if he can try and feel his brother in the water and bring him back. imagine will in the infirmary and someone tells him that there’s a head counselor meeting and he says, “michael’s not here” before realizing he IS the head counselor. will SAVED annabeth from what looked like the brink of death, lord knows what would of happened if he hadn’t. he’s admitted that he’s not the best on the field and that means he was probably a combat medic, which can mean he sees awful, awful things.

all of that before he turned 14. what the fuck. (all of that to say he’s more than this sunshine character who’s happy-go-lucky and more than just nico’s boyfriend/eye candy. please give him the respect he deserves, idc if he’s not real)
