Asks are open! *Because this is a project done FOR FUN, we may not always hit this deadline! Please stick with us and remember that it's all fun and games here :D
Hi there! Lead writer of The Starlight Project here! it's been a damn long time since I've thrown something together to actually post, so I figure I'll do it here!
First of all: Where's the next issue, MW? My answer??
Coming! Soon! (insert that one toby fox image).
No but really, it is coming soon (ish). Generally, once Starlight has 16 workable pages, we feel comfortable putting them on a timer to release to you folks every week. Currently, we have.. some pages in the works, some pages done, but even more sketched out! So work is firmly Happening!
Second of all: Why is this taking so long???? Short answer -- life. There's probably an easier way to say that, but it's true! I'm finishing up my university course (so hopefully, when it's done, I'll be way more free!) and SB is finishing their first year right now! So we're both busy in different ways.
All of this being said: thank you all, the audience, for being so wonderful and patient. As a reward, please find enclosed some fun stuff below the cut!
Ever wonder what concepting is like? See no further than this (with some names redacted, for obvious reasons)! Concepting for a page that takes place a lot later in Starlight's run!
Hm... Chao... We were very torn as to whether or not Chao were actually real things or if they were just... manufactured. I guess you'll have to find that out for yourself! Chao above totally not relevant to the above argument. Totally.
Some more concepting, this time some that the audience should recognize! This is the concept for the hole that Shadow and Sonic fall into in Issue 1, Page 6 and onwards! Look at those fancy lines... SB probably put a bit more thought into this than I did.
One last bit of concepting for you, this time in the form of a style sheet when we were still doing "Sonic Style" (for lack of a better term). Don't worry about spoilers - they've been expunged :) All this to say, I included this specifically because, somehow, upon export, this file became a WebP. We have no idea how, but it's kind of funny.
I leave you with two production memes that I promise will (eventually) make sense. Thank you again for sticking with us all this time, and hopefully, things should be in motion very soon ...
Hi! Just remembered this AU and decided to check in! I wanted to ask though, is it personal stuff that’s stopping you guys from releasing the next issue? Or are you doing something like pre-making a bunch so you can work comfortably?
Either way, looking forward to the next part! So glad this isn’t dead
Both! we want a backlog of pages, or at the minimum make enough so that If we hiatus again due to personal reasons, it ends off temporarily at a comfortable point. this is going to be a long. long process. we're both adults, one with a job and both with academic work. we tend to work in bursts so we make progress, then don't touch it for a while, then get back to it for a week etc.
we're still online (mostly me ghghgh) but we hang out on our personal blogs, which are linked in all pages!
Not here to ask anything! Just came here to say I just discovered this comic and really really loved! Hope this comic is still in the works even on the backburner, and hope we get to see it some day! Thank you for this fun take on the series!
Thank you for the lovely words! Don't worry, despite life and interests and everything, STARLIGHT is still continuing! It's because of patient and wonderful people like you that we still have the motivation to keep going.
does a little dance!! so excited for issue 2, I’m sure you guys are going to knock it out of the park!! just don’t forget to take breaks and don’t overwork yourselves!! have fun with it n all that n don’t listen to anyone trying to rush you guys :)
Thank you!! I'm really happy that people are willing to wait for Issue Two as we work! We want to make it as good as we can for everyone, so naturally that'll take a little time.
But thank you so much for your kind words! It's people like you that keep Starlight going <3
Let me be the first to say Happy New Year officially! I realize I didn't actually state it in the first post of the year, but oh well! It's nice to talk to you again!
From over here in Starlight HQ (and by HQ, I mean our computer screens), please know that Starlight Issue 2 is pretty much in full swing again! Yippee!
To kick off the New Year, and to celebrate, please take some production sketches from Issue 2 so far (plus one that looks like it came straight out of a movie storyboard leak)!
Issue One is now done and dusted, and we did have some seasonal messages planned, but ... y'know how the holidays are. We are now in the process of thumbnailing, lining, writing and mixing together Issue Two for your enjoyment!
We don't have a set date, but keep your eyes on this page in the coming months! I'm sure we'll have something fun by then <3
Nooo, that's so sad. Don't ignore my favorite actor, Sonic please
but I believe it's 'fair', after all Shamdow just ruined his entire reality in a small fraction of minutes /j. But serious- come to think of it, they are no longer friends. Shamdow isn't Shadow, he's just a complete stranger, so... Yeah, Sonic would probably ignore him for a long time, maybe.
And God. Stopping to think about it now: Since now Sonic/Nicky is out in the real world, I can only imagine all his fans seeing him on the street and being extremely happy and surprised that their favorite actor is going public — Something like the scene from Sonic X which everyone is shocked and the police just start chasing Sonic.
Sonic X is definitely a large inspiration for the next issue and this issue just passed - Sonic in the middle of a city he's marginally unfamiliar with? Crazy!
But yeah ... Sonic doesn't really know 'Shamdow'. He knows SHADOW. The ultimate lifeform! The edgy hedgehog himself! They've been through thick and thin together, and the Shadow he knows would never be anything like 'Shamdow' is.
To Sonic, he's very much like a stranger at the moment.
You're probably tired of werehog questions but I gotta know how did his costars react to that? XD I'm assuming they mustve been so confused cause none of that was probably briefed to them beforehand
I think after a certain point, people stop asking questions when it comes to the show's direction - as I said before, the more seasoned you are within the cast, the more accustomed you are with the random stuff that goes on behind the scenes LMAO
The reactions probably ranged from "This seems like a random thing to add to this season, but okay?" to "Are you kidding me? Now I have to adlib around random werewolf-ism????" - overall, a lot of confusion, quick script correction and on they went!
No time for slowing down acting around the fastest thing alive!
thinking about fakedow seeing sonic eat a chili dog for the first time and realizing that this guy can really just inhale those things and that there’s no trick or special effects - would he be scared? impressed? both?
Honestly, a bit of both! I'd hazard a guess that he's even a little envious because he wants to eat chilli dogs like that. He'd definitely ask for tips or tricks LMAO
So I was rereading the comic (as one does when they start thinking about a super cool comic) and I noticed that page 38 was missing it's Next link. Just thought you'd wanna know! Also I sooooo freaking love this comicccc. I can't wait to see what happens with Sonic and how he takes everything!!!
Oh, thank you! I'll get that fixed asap! Thanks for rereading the first issue :3
If the Werehog wasn't planned, how did the Gaia fight go down? That doesn't really seem like the sort of thing you can just set up if things go off-script.
The Werehog was one of those things that occured because of a combination of things - bad ideas, bad execution, a whole lot of grudges, etc.
But the people in charge are seasoned when it comes to dealing with Sonic - you've got to be adept at thinking on the fly when the person you're trying to fool runs a million miles an hour. The crux of the season was always "Dark Gaia/Light Gaia", it just so happened that Sonic .. uh .. became a werewolf.
Definitely not in the cards, but they made it work.
I bet this has been asked before, but how do the other actors feel about improv? I have to imagine that's what they have to do around Sonic 100% of the time, and for all of them who don't know what's going on, that's gotta be pretty taxing. XD
"Nicky went off script!"
"AGAIN???"
"The dude is so committed to this show that he never breaks character, you'd think he'd take the time to learn his lines!"
WHEN I TELL YOU THAT THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF BIT ME AND SB DO ON THE REGULAR LMAOOOO
It's pretty much exactly as you describe - some think he's an eccentric method actor that thinks of no-one but himself, some think he's an extraordinary talent and are honoured to work with him, and some think that he needs to take a serious break from acting with how into the role of 'Sonic' he appears to have gotten.
The longer an actor has been improv-ing around Sonic, the more comfortable they get with it, but it's definitely a shock to more seasoned actors that join them as one-offs for villain roles or more niche rolls within a specific season.
