Home Sweet Home Spell Jar
So I’m a Spoonie Witch, meaning I don’t really have the energy to do big spells and rituals, etc. and usually don’t feel well. (Damn you chronic illness!)
So I made this simple spell jar for promoting a warm and cozy apartment/home atmosphere.
You’ll need a jar, obviously.
Sea Salt - for protection (bottom layer)
Cinnamon - for warmth and coziness
Coffee Grounds - energy/courage/spoons
Sugar - Sweetness/Kindness
A few drops of Vanilla for extra warmth and happiness
Topped with honey to sweeten everything - plus it seeps through the layers to bind everything.
Next I got a plain tea light and carved my personal intention in to the wax, then let it burn while I went through each ingredient and re-stated/thought about my intention. When the candle was fully melted, I poured the wax onto the jar to seal my intent and voila!
I read somewhere that Schulke recommends owning a Bible as a requirement for any witch interested in European TradCraft. I am drawn to the idea of incorporating the Bible into my craft, because even if I am not Christian, I know sacred texts hold power; and my paternal, rural, countryside family has a background in Christianity. On the other hand, though, my mother’s family is strongly antereligious. As a witch, how did you personally reconcile yourself with using the Bible ?
While I definitely don’t agree with Schulke on many things, this is something I do agree with him on. The bible as a magical tool is a well documented thing that has been used in many forms of magic, including many traditions of witchcraft. Its uses have been many, from sourcing charms and spells to use as an instrument filled with power, and there are some hints towards them being used in initiation rituals (though I can only really speak for American ones). It’s highly useful for divination. Whisper a question down the spine, perhaps knock upon the cover, and either crack that bad boy open to wherever the page splits or wherever your hands are drawn to. Bibliomancy works like a charm, and though it seems limited in its scope, it’s not. I’ve seen it confirm highly specific things that seem unlikely for the book to hold. It’s also absolutely stuffed with magical potential. The psalms are all very popularly used for spells, but each passage and quotation can be used as an incantation as well. The recitation of holy stories as a method of incantation is an old one that spans across different cultures. By reciting one story and its events, you hope to influence the current events and outcomes. The book itself is also a container for raw power. It’s been used as a grimoire by folk magicians for a long time, and as I’ve gone over before, grimoires are often more than texts that list magical spells. They’re also objects imbued with power, used much the same as any other magical tool, from healing and exorcising to binding and breaking. As a witch, tapping into this stream of power can create interesting situations, but it’s not something you can generalize with. This will ultimately depend on the witch in question. For me, using the bible is just another symbol of the cheeky independence from divinity that witches have been so famous for in history, even before Christianity in Ancient Greece. Tap into the power that this current has, use it to suit whatever means you will, and pay little mind to the dogma that it might seek to place on you. If you feel that the greater powers which oversee the powers within the current are fettering you, you know how to free yourself of it. There will always be complications when witchcraft is involved. The real question is whether or not they are enough to stay your curiosity.
My friend took me to an oddity shop and we saw Baphomet and Santa Muerte, so pretty!
