Fashion or Fad: The Cat-Eye Shape

In these new series of posts, I will be discussing eyewear trends and whether they are merely fads you should avoid or real styles that are here to stay.

I was first inspired to write a post about the cat-eye trend after a discussion with an older customer. She lived throughout the 60s, in which the cat-eye shape exploded in popularity. She passionately mentioned how a pair of cat-eyes could transform an individual into a movie star.

However, she mentioned how she believed the current revival of cat-eye glasses is a fad. That statement got me thinking. Is the cat-eye trend here to stay or is it simple a fad? Upon some consideration, the cat-eye style is definitely a fashion that is here to stay and is NOT a fad! Lemme tell you why...

          1. The Cat-eye shape serves a functional purpose

For people with a wide jaw, for example square faces, the cat-eye shape will counterbalance the weight of your wider jaw to create a truly proportional look. As a result, you will l receive a flattering and unique style that only the cat-eye shapes can achieve.

          2. The 60s created classic, modern, and timeless designs

Thanks to "Mad Men", the fashions from the 1960s have find it's way back into the mainstream population's consciousness and wardrobes including cat-eye frames. More and more people are realizing that the 60s created some really elegant and fashionable pieces that flattered any woman's body, including the eyewear!  

          3.  The style is simply too beautiful/iconic to be a fad
