Nick Carraway in New York

I have recently started a new life in West Egg, and am excited to share in my journey!

I received an invitation to, and am attending my neighbor Gatsby’s party. I seem to be the only one to be invited though, as it seems all of New York just decided to show up! I believe Jordan Baker is the only person here I formally know. I think this is finally my chance to introduce myself to Gatsby himself. Wish me luck!

I took a trip today with Tom to New York. We stopped at George Wilson’s for gas in the Valley of Ashes. I have never seen such ghastly workers before. I suppose it is necessary that we stop here, as it is the half way point from the Egg’s to New York. A massive billboard of Dr. TJ Eckelburg appears to watch over the proceedings of the workers.

I visited Tom Buchanan, an old college buddy of mine, for tea. He is now married to my cousin Daisy. They live in a beautiful mansion in East Egg. Daisy seems well, it turns out she has a daughter. Tom is just as pompous as ever. I also met the golf star Jordan Baker, she was much colder than I had imagined.

Caught a glimpse of my new neighbor’s home, it is quite over the top. He often is hosting parties, almost every weekend! I have, however, not yet caught a glimpse of him. I believe he goes by the name Jay Gatsby.

The Queensboro Bridge! My first, and most marvelous, impression of New York. I have come here to enter a new trade working in bonds. I am quite anxious to see how life will ensue in my new home, West Egg.
