Lets Talk About Snake Skin

So today I want to talk about the magical uses of shed snake skin. Anyone who has seen this previous post knows I have a pet snake, Nagini (yes from the books, no I don’t think I’m Voldemort). This is a picture of my lovely little noodle:

For a healthy adult, about every 2 months a snake will shed the outer layer of its skin in one whole piece. I’ve had Nagini for almost 2 years, so I’ve seen a lot of her skin come and go. I keep a stash of some of her shed skin so I can use them in my craft whenever I need it. This isn’t a super common ingredient people have talked about, so these are mainly my personal interpretations. Also, I’m sure there are lots of other uses, including offerings to deities, spirits etc, but I can’t say much on that subject.

Regeneration and Health: A snake shedding its skin is a response to new growth, and what comes in is new and healthy, pushing out any injured or diseased pieces. This interpretation is especially applicable to Nagini’s skin because she had scale rot, a disease that can kill snakes if left untreated. We worked together to heal her and now, to me, she has especially regenerative and healing properties in her skin.

Getting over something: Use snake skin as a part of spell bags or jars that you’re using to get past something. A snake sheds its skin and so can you shed your history. This meaning definitely can be conjoined with the previous meaning to help heal a broken heart.

Protection: snake skin is made up of scales. It is effectively the snake’s personal suit of chain mail. Use snake skin in any witch bottle or protection talisman you may be setting up to add a little extra boost to them. Could be especially effective if you’re trying to do a protection spell against rodents, as they are the snake’s fodo source.

Persuasion: Snakes are often in mythology thought of as manipulative and persuasive. The snake in the garden of eden for example (and the only other examples coming to mind are from Disney movies). If you’re doing a spell to increase your persuasiveness, add some snake skin to it to increase its potency.

Bad Luck Hex: This is a spell I found online years ago, but have never tried and do not know how effective it is. If you crush up the snake skin into a powder and put the powder in someone’s shoes, they will suffer bad luck. You can dictate how long you want this hex to last, but it will be short lived.

Baneful magic: Snakes are offensive predators and can kill by either constriction or venom. Use this power that they have to add power to a curse you are doing or you can craft one around the snake skin. Highly deadly snakes would likely be much more effective for this purpose, although it will be very difficult to find the materials.

I will say, don’t add snake skin to any potions or teas you make. You don’t know what type of bacteria or parasites could be on it and you wouldn’t want to consume anything like that. Reserve it for spell bags, jars, offerings and I do occasionally burn it.

after everything we've all gone through we all deserve some good things so we like making these posts every now and then to put some positivity in the community.

regardless of what your system looks like youre still entirely valid. dont let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Sometimes I throw myself into such a vivid alternate reality that I forget where the line is between what’s real and what’s my daydream and one time I was having troubles with my boyfriend and I was slipping into a daydream to escape it but apparently that daydream had me cast as the lead singer and antagonist for the storyline and I accidentally sang out loud a whole beginning verse to a song that doesn’t exist that heavily related to my relationship issues
