okay, hello everyone. at this moment i have closed asks. i was away from the internet all day, so i wasn't able to see what was happening on this blog, and for that i apologize. last night i just queued a bunch of posts so that they would upload while i was away. i see now that that was probably a mistake. it was naive and stupid of me to assume that that was okay, i should have been more careful. i think this might be a good time to let this blog rest, and i will probably be stepping away from this fandom and tumblr as to not cause anymore damage than this blog already has. i've mentioned a couple times before that i am new to fandoms in general, and i've come to realize that maybe this fandom was not the best one to start in. i feel so awful at the things that i have inadvertently caused, that was never my intention. i truly just wanted to do something fun. i hope that this doesn't make things worse. i will probably be online for a bit longer before logging off. if anyone would be kind enough to let me know or give some advice on what the best course of action for this situation would be, then that would be greatly appreciated. again i am so sorry, and i hope you all have a wonderful day/night.

What most people attribute to ship-bashers should actually be attributed to the racist people that they’re actually bashing. mad that you can’t exist shipping parkovitch in peace? 1, yes you can, just be Normal about it, 2, don’t get mad at the poc upset about OTHER parko shippers, get mad at the racists that made it so they have to be wary about it

The Harkness and Barkovitch kinnies are a big reason why this fandom is such a shitshow because they stan a made up version of characters that doesn’t fucking exist so they perceive any criticism as personal attacks. And godforbid you point out their racism, ableism, or trans fetishization and the implicit biases they have because you’re “ruining their fun”

i'm sorry you've been getting hate :( that's so unfair to you, especially since these aren't your opinions you've been sharing, just others that have decided to share. some people in this fandom are so mean for no reason and tend to let their anger out in the worst ways possible, even if some people don't deserve it.

thank you, i really appreciate this. when going into this i wasn't really expecting the type of responses i ended up getting. i'm just happy that a couple people like you have reached out to me being kind, and that people are able to get things off their chest. fandom treats Collie and Stebbins like sentient dildos used to fuck their fav twinks and it’s really dehumanizing and the level of objectification is seriously racist (Collie) and ableist (Stebbins) but because it’s not outright saying slurs and more covert that whenever folks are called out on it they hide behind saying shit like it’s just kink or ship dynamics or let people have fun!!! Without understanding their fun is harmful, normalizes this behavior in fandom, or that REAL people see this shit.

Has “don’t like, don’t read” just entirely fallen by the wayside as far as fandom etiquette is concerned? I’ve been thinking this more and more often recently, but no whereas frequently as when I interact with this fandom. It’s like some people just wanna be mad.

There is a problem with some people stripping poc characters (especially Pete) of their depth & over-sanctifying them- thus not writing them like full people- but there's also a major problem with the poc characters being demonized as well, usually in service of uplifting the white characters- there are many fics where Hank & Art are made out to be bullies, Pete is framed as violently jealous & aggressive, and Collie is presented as angry, aggressive, and even abusive, etc, etc. obviously not allowing the poc characters to have flaws is a problem, I do think it's inaccurate however to frame that as the biggest issue in the fandom when so much content does villainize the poc characters & often do so in ways that plays directly into racist stereotypes. the previous asker seriously oversimplified things in my opinion

The Long Walk is emotionally devastating but honestly it is one of the most beautiful stories of brotherhood and friendship, even if it's completely heart wrenching

while there are people who flatten specific poc characters in a way that removes their flaws & depth- this mostly happens to Pete- and that's def racist as well & important to call out, I'd say there's a much bigger issue with all the poc characters constantly being either demonized to make the white characters look better or being written to completely revolve around their white love interest

I like them a lot and I don’t want to do them dirty. But I’m also scared I’m interpreting them wrong and. YEAH you can see my problem

Imo The Long Walk fandom has had like... A pretty big problem with racial stereotypes ngl. From what I've seen, ESPECIALLY with Pete and Collie.

this fandom likes to let fandom woobification and bad faith engagements with characters (harkness and barkovitch) and ships (parkovitch and starkness) color their opinion of said character and ship, and it just leads to ship, shipper, character and character enjoyer bashing. they seem to forget that public hate towards staples of their own fandom is not only childish but breeds hatred and toxicity. this kind of behavior is understandable considering a lot of the bullshit surrounding these four topics, but at the end of the day hating on people who are engaging in enjoyment in fiction (albeit assuming it is in a way that is not forwarding agendas of racism and ableism) just makes this fandom space a really fucked up place to exist in.
