This was on the ceiling of the hospital room at the UCI women's center yesterday. I found it hilarious and ironic. I also found it to be a testament to the psychological pain relief of miracles; they are everywhere, if you know where to look and you search with a grateful soul. In Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms", the main characters survive the economy of war and painful physical injuries by using playful dialogue and their shared imagination- it serves as a tragedy of sorts when the female protagonist gives birth to a stillborn and died shortly thereafter of a hemorrhage, leaving the male protagonist to wander the temporary world an individual and weary soul. Hemingway weaved a melancholy, masculine Universe, one without much meaning or explanation, a story that inevitably ends. I wondered what would have happened if Catherine's son was born in a different world, and she decided to choose that happy Universe too..... and Henry just didn't believe in Wonderland, or Dr. Seuss-land, or in flowers really, so he missed the entrance to another story. I think we should have more stories without endings, and more ceiling light tiles with butterflies on them. #shejustwantstoplay ❤️☀️🌈
