Trevor shrugged his shoulders. “In that case its a good thing that you have already persuaded me to sleep next to you.” He told her. “The only thing that will keep you up is my snoring.” He added with a teasing chuckle. Trevor helped himself to a slice of pizza, before he looked over at her. “They have, haven’t they.” He said before he took a bite.

“Yes, it really is. I promise to try to not snuggle up to you too much though.” Mia teased, although she knew she didn’t have any control over what she did while she was sleeping. “We have been over this, I can handle snoring, especially if I am sleeping first, which I likely will be based on your work schedule being as hectic as you are making it sound.” She added with a shrug, really just not worried about it in the slightest. “But that is what friends are for, right?”

“Well I am not going to give you an answer, so there is that.” He told her with a teasing smile. He was going to leave it at that, not giving her the satisfaction of an honest answer. “Good, I am glad we are on the same page on at least about that.” He said. “Alright then, I am ready to eat so play whatever that is, and lets get so full that we can’t even move after.” He suggested. “Hey, who is the savior now?”

“Well, fine be that way.” Mia replied, sending him a small pout. She knew that he was just teasing her, but it was fun. “I’m just a big old cry baby, and I would like to be able to sleep at night. I’m having enough trouble as it is.” She added, knowing the last little while had been a bit rough. “You don’t need to tell me twice.” She added, before leaning over and taking one of the slices of pizza. “Yes, I must admit. The tables really have turned.”

Trevor smiled. “Nah, it has absolutely nothing to do with that.” He told her, giving away a teasing wink. Truth be told, Trevor found her way more than cute. In his eyes she was beautiful. “That is good. I mean, crime is fine, but I can’t deal with House of Wax or those types of movies.” He told her, shrugging his shoulders gently. He absolutely hated horror movies and always had. Trevor took a seat in the sofa an opened the cardboard box with the pizza. The smell immediately filled the room and it made his mouth water. He had not eaten much today, so he was very ready to get going on the pizza. He leaned back in the sofa a bit as she read out the suggestions. “Fine. Let’s go with the second option, and if I do fall asleep during it, do not wake me.” He told her, pointing his finger at her, pretending to be strict, before his lips cracked back up into his signature smile. “Why is it so hard to say no to you? I will never understand.”

“I’d say my charming personality, but you can’t really tell that from a dating app. So I am out of guesses.” Mia replied, shrugging at the man. She knew he was playing around and teasing her, and she enjoyed the stress free banter. “Oh no, I hate horror in general. Like if we watched a horror movie I would be curled up in your lap and hiding by about five minutes into it.” She added, knowing she was a bit of a baby when it came to scary things. There was enough of that in the world, she didn’t need it on tv too. Mia nodded at Trevor’s statement. “Yeah that seems like a fair deal.” She added, although she had a feeling that he likely wouldn’t actually end up falling asleep. “Because I stopped you from being homeless so now you sort of owe me.”

“That sounds good.” Charles said. “I know. And all those questions, I could not help them myself half the time because they were asking so much random stuff.”

“Yeah, I just tried to look intimidating in hopes that they would ask someone else for help instead. Or I looked like I was incredibly busy and not in the mood to be bothered.”

Trevor rolled his eyes a bit playfully at her. “Of course, why else would I swipe right on you.” He responded with a sarcastic tone of voice. Trevor did not have a large dating history, seeing he had been rather lucky so to speak that all those he had dated had ended up as longterm girlfriends. Obviously neither had been a match. “Yeah, I will keep that in mind.” He said with a smile. He had seen a lot already in the short time he had been a police officer, but he was yet to experience a stalker case. Trevor made his way to the hallway. “You know I don’t mind. As long as it is not a horror, I see enough of that at work.” He told her before he proceeded to fish his wallet out of his pocket and unlocked the door. He payed and tipped the guy before he made his way into the living room, placing the pizza on the table along with the cans of drinks he had ordered. “What are we watching?” 

“Surely not because I am a total cutie.” Mia joked, although in reality she did know that she was rather good looking by most people’s standards. “Well, lucky for you I also see enough horror in my line of work to not want it at home either.” She added, knowing that she had reported on some pretty horrible things. People just seemed to want to hurt each other, and she couldn’t figure out why. While Trevor was gone, she did end up settling on a rom-com type film, or at least something that she had heard was good. “Well, you see the problem is that I am very far behind on my movie trends.” Mia added with a small chuckle. “So I am thinking either Love, Actually or To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Both of which are probably also movies that you aren’t going to really enjoy. So, pick your poison.”

“Yeah I believe it is.” He told her, thinking he had read that somewhere. “I mean, I am glad there are still options around here, and there seems to be more and more for every week.” He said. “Oh yes. Tourists.”

“I’ll have to ask my roommate about it. I am sure he can give me a giant list of places that he’s tried.” Mia replied, sending Charles a small smile. “They were the literal worst thing about New York.”

Trevor shrugged his shoulders. “Fair enough. I would have swiped right on you.” He told her with a light chuckle. “I mean, I guess I am a man so I am less at risk in case it turns out to be a crazy person, but then again I would not think I would be safe from a stalker though if it ever came to that.” He told her. Locking his eyes on the blonde again, having them remain there. “Yeah we do. Too much in common sometimes.” He told her with a smile. Glad he had a friend whom he got on with so well. “Oh I believe it.” He said, taking a step closer to her, placing his hand on each side of her face before giving her a smile. Biting his lips together as he locked his eyes with hers for a couple of seconds before he heard the doorbell ring. He took a step back again, before he smiled. “I.. I should get that.” He said, before he he made his way towards the door. “Um.. Do you want to choose a movie while I pay?” He asked her.

“Is it because I’m blonde?” Mia joked, letting out a chuckle. Honestly, she didn’t really know much about what Trevor’s type was. She didn’t like to know about about his girlfriends, because then she would find herself comparing herself to them. Which she knew was something that she wasn’t supposed to do if she kind considered him a friend. “Yeah, as it turns out people can be stalkers even if they seem innocent and safe at first. Trust me.” She added with a shrug, knowing her ex hadn’t seemed bad when she had first met him. It was over time that the red flags started to add up, and by then it had been far too late. When Trevor stepped closer to her Mia felt her heart flutter simply by being close to him. She was trying to fight off old feelings, but they were clearly fluttering back. She was lost in his gaze when she heard the doorbell. “Yeah. Don’t worry, I won’t make you watch a rom-com.” Mia joked, wishing that the moment hadn’t ended.

Trevor shrugged. “They do have apps for dating now you know.” He told her with a light chuckle. “But if you want we can get you some stuff to make you feel a lot safer? You know like a pepper spray and an alarm perhaps?” He suggested, as he wanted her to feel safe here in Portland, seeing he would not be home all the time due to work. Trevor scoffed a little, cracking his lips into another smile. “Thank you Mia.” He said. “And the same goes for you. Any guy would be lucky to call you theirs.” He told her, locking his eyes on the blonde, before he turned his head a bit to the side. He had know Mia for years. During his time in New York she had been one of his best friends, but after moving to Portland he had started to miss her very much. He bit his lips together a little, before standing back up. “Yeah that is right. I guess we have that in common.” He told her, before he nodded. “That is fair I guess, and very smart of you.” He told her. 

“Yeah no, I am not going to go meet strangers on the internet. No thank you. I already have one stalker too many.” Mia added, having reported on far too many online dating horror stories to ever want to try that herself. Maybe she’d have good luck, maybe she wouldn’t but at this point it wasn’t something that she was willing to risk. “Yeah, that might help. Basically anything we can do to make me feel even remotely better is always welcome.” She added, trying to be strong about the entire thing but part of her was still very scared. Mia didn’t want to think about what could have happened if she had stayed in New York. She sent Trevor one of her charming smiles, always glad when he agreed with her. “We’ve always had a lot of things in common. It’s sort of why we get along so much.” She added, knowing he was one of the few people in her life she had actually let see the real her.  “I have been known to be clever on occasion, believe it or not.”

Charles nodded. “It sure had options to be honest with you. I guess it comes with the size and demand from the people living there, but still the food was the best thing.” He agreed. “Yeah that is true. It was the pretties part of New York.”

“Yeah, New York is one of the biggest cities in the world, isn’t it? So it only makes sense it would have a lot more options than any other city in the states.” Mia replied, knowing that NYC was the biggest city in America. “Sadly, it’s always full of tourists.”

Trevor shrugged his shoulder. “You never know.” He told her. “These things tend to work themselves out and usually happens when you least expect it.” He told her. Knowing very well from his past experiences it had usually been out of his control whenever he had fallen for someone. “I am glad it worked in my favor this time. I will do anything to keep you safe.” He told her with a genuine smie. Knowing he would do anything in his power to keep her safe. “I am sure you will. You’re a catch.” He responded, shrugging his shoulders at her. Trevor could not help but smile. “You would have done the same for me.” He tokd her. “Or actually, you did. When I was in need you provided me with a roof over my head, food and everything else I need. I am just doing the same for you.” He said before he took a seat on the edge of the bed. “Do you want some help while we wait for the pizza?” He asked her.

“To be fair, to meet people I’d have to go outside. And I can’t see myself feeling safe doing that alone for the next little while.” Mia replied with a shrug. Maybe she was overreacting or maybe she was being overly cautious, only time would tell. She was fairly certain that her ex hadn’t followed her to Portland, but she didn’t want to take any chances. “Of course you will, because you are a nice guy. Which I’ve learned in recent years are rare. Someday you are going to make someone very happy, and they’ll be the luckiest woman in the world.” Mia replied, part of her still wishing that woman was her. But she’d spent far too many years pining after Trevor and had decided long ago that she needed to move on. “You needed help, and you were too stubborn to take it until I forced it upon you.” She added with a small shrug.  “To be honest, I only brought the bare minimum with me. I didn’t know if I was being watched or not. When it’s safe to do so, I am going to have my Aunt send the rest of my stuff.”

Charles smiled. “What was your favorite part about the big apple?” He asked her out of curiosity, but also because this whole conversation had made him want to reminisce a bit. “I for one miss the pizza.” He said with a light chuckle, taking a bit of his food, even though he now was in fact craving pizza.

“I agree, the pizza was to die for. I think my favourite part was just the food in general. There was literally a million different options, so you never had to ahve the same stuff twice.” Mia responded, reminiscing to all of the things she had tried. “I really liked just spending an afternoon in Central Park too though. It was nice to see so much green in the middle of a giant city.”

Trevor cracked his lips into a slight smile. “Don’t worry, if worst comes to worst, I am sure they have their own place.” He responded, shrugging his shoulders as it was only hypothetical at the moment, but at the same time probably worth them discussing. “Oh it has, maybe not in terms of dating, yet. But it got me my friend here and back into my life, so I am not complaining.” He told her, obviously referring to her a the friend. “That is fair. Although, I don’t think that is true. I mean, sure you have been unlucky, but it is their loss for not treating you the way you deserve.” He told her, knowing he only wanted the best for her. “Right, follow me this way.” He said, before walking over to the end of the living room there there were two doors. “This is the bedroom.” He said, opening the one to the left. “And this is the bathroom.” He added, opening the door to the right. “I already cleared out some space for your stuff in the wardrobe, as well as a shelf in the bathroom, until we can get some more storage, or a bigger place.”

“I guess that is fair. I will keep that in mind too, in case I meet a special someone. Which I can’t see happening for me anytime soon, but who knows.” Mia replied, feeling dating should be the last thing on her mind. But if she met a man and woman she connected with, she wasn’t going to take it off the table entirely. “Well, I likely would have come anyway, to be fair. But the cop thing didn’t hurt your odds.” She said honestly, knowing she had felt safe around Trevor even before he had become a police officer. Trevor had always been someone she could depend on, and she didn’t feel like that was ever going to change. “I guess I just don’t really have good luck, because I haven’t met the right person yet or something.” Mia replied, trying to be optimistic.  She followed him around the apartment and made herself familiar with where everything was located. She still didn’t know how long she was going to be there but she wanted to be comfortable in the meantime. “Thank you, I appreciate that. You are going above and beyond, and honestly I am not surprised.”

“That is true. Women also, in my personal experience anyhow.” He told her with a light chuckle. “Well, I guess Manhattan is one of the better things about New York, in my opinion. If I had to choose that is.” He said, missing his penthouse flat that used to be located in Mathattan.

“Yeah, that is fair. I didn’t deal with that much myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised.” Mia replied, shrugging at him. She appeared straight, so women didn’t hit on her much. “I basically just went from home to school, and then from home to work. But on the occasions I did explore, I loved it.”

Trevor cracked his lips into a smile as she stated she did not want to be a cockblock, as she so bluntly put it. Trevor shrugged his shoulders. “I mean, I am all for a better place, like this was just going to be temporary anyway.” He told her, also knowing it might be in both of their best interest to move in case Mia’s ex decided to show up. “And I don’t think you need to worry about any women coming around any time soon.” Trevor added with a light chuckle. “I haven’t had time to date, nor even update my dating app since I moved her because of work.” Trevor was not much of a dating app type guy anyway. He had always preferred long term relationships over one night stands. “Buffalo chicken pizza it is.” He said, before he fished his phone out of his pocket and dialed the number to order. “I ordered us something to drink as well.” He told her once he got off the phone. “Do you want me to show you the bedroom?”

“That’s fair. As long as you are not inconveniencing yourself for my sake.” Mia replied with a smile. She had a lot of respect for Trevor and cared about him a lot, so she wanted what was best for him. “See, you’d think the whole cop thing would work in your favor. Granted, I guess you haven’t really been here that long, so there is still time.” She added, sending him a wink. “I think I am taking a bit of a break from dating myself. Recent events have sort of taught me that I have horrible taste in men.” Mia responded, not really trusting herself at the moment. She was feeling pretty stupid because she knew that there were a lot of red flags that she had clearly missed early on in her relationship with her ex-boyfriend. Mia waited while Trevor ordered and then sent him a small smirk. “Forever a gentlemen. But yes, you might as well give me a tour while we wait.”

“Yes and the smell!” He agreed with her when she brought up the cabs. “I am so glad that Uber took off, even though I had some bad experiences there as well.” He chuckled. “Yeah exactly. I loved the outskirts of New York. Like the Hamptons, that was nice.”

“Yeah, Uber and I didn’t have the best track record to be honest. There are a lot of creepy men on there. Maybe I will have better luck now though.” Mia replied with a small shrug. New York had been a bit of a mess when it came to creepy men, but maybe she just had the worst luck with men in general. “See, I didn’t tend to leave Manhattan much.”

Trevor had nothing but faith in his friend and her abilities. Even back in New York when he had lived with her, he remembered seeing bits and pieces floating around the flat with things she had written. She sure had a way with words. “Mia, I would love nothing more than for you to stay. Stay as long as you’d like.” He told her. “I did have a look at a bigger space for us, in case you’d want to.. I don’t know.. Become roommates again?” He said with a light chuckle. He for sure had missed her company, and he had not realized how much until she had contacted him. “Alright then, you have been warned.” He repeated as he opened the drawer to the dresser in the hallway. “Here,” He said, handing her the menu. “They do the best pizza in Portland, or at least out of the once I have tried so far.”

“See, a bigger place I can definitely get behind, if that’s what you want to do. I just don’t want you to feel like I am cramping your style or being a cockblock or something. You know, in case you want to have a girl over or something.” Mia replied, playfully. He might not be seeing anyone at the moment, but he knew that Trevor was quite the catch so it likely wouldn’t be long before some woman in this city was interested in him. “But we can look at some places for sure.” Mia added, knowing that she enjoyed living with Trevor the last time that they did it. “Yes, your warning has been heard and has been noted.” She teased, before looking at the menu. “Buffalo chicken pizza is still my preferred option, but we can get pepperoni if you want. I am hungry enough to eat just about anything.”
