Hey Spooky People! Today we are traveling to New England to unearth a dark chapter in history. We are heading straight into the heart of early Massachusetts to look into a story of fear, hysteria and betrayal.
In the freezing winter of 1626, a group of deeply religious, strict Puritans settled in what is now present-day Salem, Massachusetts. They believed the dark, uncharted New England forests surrounding them was crawling with evil.
In the winter of 1692, nine-year-old Betty and eleven-year-old Abigail began suffering from strange fits. They threw objects across rooms and contorted their bodies into unnatural shapes.
The diagnosis? Witchcraft. Under intense pressure, the young girls finally pointed fingers, accusing local outcasts of tormenting them. Hysteria instantly gripped Salem, turning neighbor against neighbor, and opening the floodgates to a dark era of paranoia and betrayal.
Fun Fact: Salem's haunting atmosphere didn't just stay in the history books - it also inspired cinema. Salem became the backdrop for Disney's iconic, spooky classic, Hocus Pocus.
