The Runner (Chapter 8)
I felt something. I didnāt quite know what I felt. It wasnāt something as clichĆ© as fireworks or butterflies. No, it was something much deeper than that. As I kissed him, I felt as if I was falling into his soul, seeing the great depths of his soul. His happiness, his grief, I could feel every bit of it. This intrigued me, how could complex could one person really be? He was just another seemingly troubled, dark, āI donāt care about anything but myselfā teenage boy. Or was he? He was peculiar. He was attractive, but more than that. He was polite, funny, and just a great guy to be around. Good company. I felt him, I felt each bit of pain, each moment of joy, every smile or frown that ever landed upon his lips. I could feel him. He was beautiful. āKate?ā I heard him say. I guess the kiss had ended sooner than I had thought. I opened my eyes and looked up at him, both of us still rather close to each other. āSo youāre one of those guys?ā āOne of what guys?ā āThe kind that kiss on the first date?ā I said, mockingly. He rolled his eyes and tried to hide his smile while opening the passenger door or his car for me.

"Okay technically that wasnāt our first date," Harry argued. āTechnically it was!ā I fought back. āNo! After the concert!ā āI would hardly call that a date. That was more of a rescue.ā āThat was a date!ā āMaybe a sympathy date,ā I joked. āOh ouch, that one hurt!ā Harry joked. We were both laughing, just enjoying each others company. I did like talking with him , he was actually fun. He put on the act during school, but one-on-one, he was quite the character. We pulled up to my house. I turned to get out of my seatbelt, and before I knew it, Harry was already out of the car and had opened my door for me. He walked me to my door in silence. āSoā¦ā I started. āSo, Iāll pick you up tomorrow morning?ā āOh really?ā āYes really.ā āWell fine. But you shouldnāt expect me to be up and at āme at the crack of dawn. I need my rest.ā I said sarcastically. He smiled, āWhatever you say.ā he took my hand and kissed it softly and daintily. Then walked down the steps and back to his car, driving off into the cool night.
