#I would play TNG era first cause its the most interesting in my opinion #and you don’t need to know what happened during TC to understand TNG anyways #and if I am being honest in TNG era I would just skip episodes 11-17 20-24 and 26-30 #they’re fun episodes but they’re honestly not essential to the plot whatsoever #to be honest the new girl gets REALLY REALLY REALLY good at episode 35. don’t get me wrong 1-11 18 19 and 25 are all good #and definitely play those but after 35 there are none I recommend skipping

realizing i forgot to talk about surviving high school the new girl season 3 WELL HERE

#i realize that zoe is not as discarded as i thought she was in the first half of the new girl #sam (and by extension colt/taylor) are still the only characters with a naturally evolving arc #but there are these little parts to zoe and howard's relationship like zoe wanting to be more adventurous #howard trying to go out of his way to make zoe happy whether its making it fucking snow in california or being more adventurous #all of it lasts max 1 episode before its like the relationship resets again #but she doesn't feel absent like i thought she was #the only episode that bears any mention is the reluctant matchmaker and thats cause it addresses taylor and sam #sam's 'matchmaking' skills is one of her understated qualities but its also funny to see the lengths shes going to make taylor happy #poor girl could not catch a break. i like how they show that sam is resourceful but also the lengths she will go to to appease people #like she goes to great lengths to make paige and taylor back off and it works....... and then she accidentally wins queen of hearts #and its back to square 1. i do wish the story was more overt about this #like its suggested that taylor is annoyed about losing the crown but it isn't as deliberate #anyways that is truly all there is to say about this season

finished surviving high school the new girl season 4 WE CHEER

#a decent season #better than 2 and 3 not as good as 1 #now season 4 gets a 7/10 cause it has the greatest episode of all time: trapped in the classroom #whoever had the idea to put denni colt brendan and taylor in a classroom together #you changed lives #this storyline is what killed sara kessler a year and a half later when you think about it #but before that i need to say that the school rebellion storyline is meh #i thought it would be cornier and especially given that im a teacher i would roll my eyes #but they did an impressive job at a) poking fun at the idea and b) keeping it from being too 'and school is oppressing us >:('#however i did find the story rushed #we see it going down at wilson then the reforms are introduced and then the ride along episode which doesn't have much to do with the schoo #and then trapped in the classroom which is much more character focused #and then BOOM rebellion #like there needed to be an in between episode that just shows the students adjusting to the new rules. and also probably an episode #of scott at bootcamp considering that he comes back with a ton of important info learned off screen #the rebellion itself was also whatever it all happened a little too easily especially convincing justin to defect like sure i guess #and im not really sure why scott and angie needed to break up for any of this #aside from that i loved spring break up that was a fun episode but somewhat inconsequential in sam's arc #i also love how the game will take any opportunity to put the monarch prep girls in its no wonder they made paige a main later down the lin #but trapped in the classroom is such a good episode. like its such a funny scenario for them to be caught in and they all react so differen #but it also does a lot to bring colt and denni and also taylor to life GREAT EPISODE WE LOVE IT

we don’t give sam colt and taylor enough credit for carrying the new girl season 2

#it’s by far the weakest season of the new girl cause it’s just so directionless #several episodes are filler and have these plots that have no relevance to the actual conflict #first of all ENOUGH OF HOWARD’S SISTERS #this is called surviving HIGH SCHOOL not elementary school stop with the nine year olds #like did the writers not know who the fans were invested in cause it was certainly not Kay and Kel #an episode that was better than I remembered was long distance relationtrip #now we still don’t gaf about dinah and brendan but there were a few funny moments #and colt and denni were very entertaining together. they have such a bickering dynamic I love it #I also didn’t realize that they hinted Denni having a crush on Colt this early on #she’s all like ‘omgggg raven he is the worst he’s such a bad person he breaks the law’#and raven’s like ‘so you like him don’t you’#now the best part was obviously the truth about colt part 1 and 2 #any scene with the cheerleaders is golden they are SO FUNNY #I love it when they’re having an emergency meeting and it’s just to discuss who is Taylor going to go out with #it’s crazy how narcissistic she is pre character development #and yeah taylor is vengeful and goes out of her way abuse her power #but sam and colt suck because not only do they interrupt the date they don’t even have the decency to say sorry #like colt literally ditches taylor without saying a word i’d be pissed to?!?!#I will say colt’s reasons for abandoning sam that night are still ???#like you went to get your sister was it so hard to tell sam that #I don’t get why he couldn’t say it was it shame was it that it was simply none of her business he’s very iffy about that #I think it comes down to him being secretive and protective and just inconsiderate #it’s ironic that he doesn’t want to leave his little sister abandoned so he abandons everyone else #anyways we are officially past SHS’s weakest season and ON TO GREATNESS!

PLAYING THE NEW GIRL WE PRAYED FOR DAYS LIKE THESE

#okay so season 1 is a solidly okay season. not amazing not horrible #considering how great howard and zoe are by the end it’s a shame that the writers didn’t take their time with developing them as a couple #in the beginning #like they very quickly fall for each other and then there’s all this weirdness where howard isn’t sure about her because of linda #meanwhile zoe is being a bird and is willing to wait for him #and then they get together because howard is looking for something new #outside of that it’s not really clear what makes Zoe the one #the real GREATNESS is Sam and Colt #serving toxic couple realness #the scene at the park when she tells him she won’t get back together with him #and then when she asks him for a ride and he literally refuses 😭#the writers were very clear that this guy is an asshole #but also I kind of love how direct colt is and how he kept trying with sam #a man who doesn’t respect your boundaries 🩷#it’s just refreshing cause for a while all of the classics characters minus tom prince were written as good people #like we’re even supposed to root for Hector as he is having an affair with Amanda #but Colt is much more morally gray #and the flashback episodes to monarch prep LOVE ITTTTT #love sam and paige what a shame a new start just forgot about them #cause that was real friendship 🫂 interesting that paige was such a popular character #I mean everyone loves their rich mean girl but paige was fun to have #and I love that she was willing to assist sam with meeting up with colt #as for how they fell in love.. poor kids at a boarding school.. yeah YEAH #we’re just going to ignore the part about how his actions got her expelled #well in all fairness sam is somewhat to blame too like you know you shouldn’t have been at that party #WHATEVER

Replaying Surviving High School The Classics era and MANYYYYYY MANNNYYYY THOUGHTS

#okay first of all the classics will never be the new girl era #the characters and relationships are not nearly as compelling #starting with Linda who’s personality is pretty and peppy and popular #and there is nothing that helps us understand why Linda is popular #like she’s not on the cheerleading squad she isn’t rich why the hell is she popular idk boring character #and her love triangle with Kenji and Howard is very boring Kenji kisses her #she and Howard then argue about her hanging out with Kenji and then Howard sings a song #love triangle over. like that’s it. where are the stakes. the excitement YAWNNNN #and I love Brendan he’s such a lovable character in the new girl #but Dinah is just mopey and im an outcast wahhhh Brendan likes kat which isn’t interesting #by far the worst has been spike mallika and kim #first of all the love triangle is Mallika and Kim bickering over spike who has literally said he doesn’t want either #and neither girl seems to respect his wishes (but that’s the lesson here so whatever)#and then Mallika just happens to be at the flex games and helps spike and BOOM love triangle over #they don’t even address Kim’s feelings that episode they act like she wasn’t even part of the equation #the only ONLY interesting element is Hector and Amanda #their relationship is intriguing it literally starts with them making out during a trip to Paris despite Amanda having a boyfriend #and then even though Hector is supposed to be a player he actually has feelings and despises Zach #who treats Amanda like garbage anyways. and then they CHEAT AGAIN during new years #what doesn’t really make sense is how multiple people know about this and they get no pushback #like Taylor and Howard both know and neither of them are like Hector this is wrong #whatever tom prince is kind of entertaining though

HIII! Fellow lover of Surviving High School I’m SOOO SOO happy I’m not alone on this hidden gem! It was the such an amazing game, I remember playing it as a kid on my crappy ass Samsung ipod/iphone dupe (it was thick enough I could hit someone and do real damage). There’s nothing like it today IDC IDC about episode and choices the same way. The playability and choice format of SHS is unique my fav ones were the Football Season ones - the skull, heart and smiley face system? CHEF’S KISS. The way if you flop the pop quizzes so ur grades drop so your dad still gives u a fuck ass car but it’s a total surprise until prom/homecoming? I would crack up at the sound effects when it was revealed how shit you’d done it was too funny. I would acc revise them questions cause I didn’t wanna screw up. The male MC’s friendship/shenanigans with Howard made me nostalgic for a time that hadn’t happened to me yet. My fav moments were when you’d double date with him or when his younger sisters would sabotage when someone was mean to Howard.

AND THEN The New Girl Era with Zoe and reoccurring characters from the previous era? They felt so raw and real, they had proper banter and purpose.

As I was a kid I couldn’t pay for the other episodes (screaming and throwing up because I can now) The furthest I ever got with the episodes was first season of The New Start with Owen and 1 ep of Troublemakers. That and the finale! I got to play that but little me didn’t understand what was happening so I have no idea where my old phone is, if it works or if I deleted the app off my phone.

I remembered it again this week and I’ve been watching some play throughs on YT (there’s like none…!) and I’m so sad AINT NOBODY TOLD ME NOTHING ABOUT PAIGE AND OWEN???? IM OBSESSED WITH THEIR ARGUING AND BANTERING???? Like I missed out FR poor little me.

We deeply mourn the loss of a GOODly written and thought out game. Since playing SHS I’ve tried finding games like it and nothing hits the spot. Not a damn thing, I’ve been in the hunt for nearly a decade and I think the closest is Life Is Strange and I’m not a big fan of non-realistic kinda scenarios (still are down tho)

HELLOOOOO SHS FAN!!!! You don't know exciting it is that 13 years after I discovered this game, I'm finding people that are still excited about it and love to talk about SHS as much as I do. SHS really was special and unique in a way that Choices and Episode can't replicate. I tend to find Choices frustrating because it pretends its a story branching game, but at the same time, pretty much all of your decisions are limited besides your name, appearance, and love interest. It really makes it feel like there are no stakes to the choices you make and at the same time, this one-size-fits-all approach to main characters takes away their depth. The really fun part about Football Star is how you could literally watch the long term ramifications of your choices through the skulls/heart/smiley face system. Football Star is such a perfect intro to the game because of how many different ways you can play it. The New Girl was obviously a very different approach. It was a lot more like a TV show where there was a consistent storyline and your choices had to be correct or else you wouldn't get the correct ending. And while people now might find that too limiting, it made for a REALLYYYYY interesting story. The New Girl was such a good balance of humor and drama, and there was such a nice balance of characters within the cast. It's also the first era I played so I'm super biased towards The New Girl. LOL it's amazing that you've rediscovered the game now and you're getting to relive Paige and Owen's relationship. I remember during peak SHS, there was so much fighting between the Zoe and Howard/Zoe and Nate/Zoe and Owen/Paige and Owen shippers. The funny thing is that I actually wasn't a fan of A New Start era very much. But I plan on replaying it later this year so I wonder if my opinion will change.

And yeah, there really isn't a game that does exactly what SHS did. Choices tries to a certain degree and all of the SHS writers ended up creating Choices, but the approach is different. You aren't gonna get 268 episodes about the a group of people going to one school together.

Ahoy! HMT anon here! Regarding my opinions, I don't know if you've had the chance to watch it yet, but I have and genuinely it's...Bad? It's so odd, because it sucks but I don't know how else they could've ended it? I feel like since the show has been running on empty, it's constantly struggling to justify its own existence? I wanted to wait until the Final season before making a vid on it, because I wanted to give it a fair shake, but honestly, I've just been waiting season on repeat 1/2

HMT anon 🫶🏼 I gave up on the show after season 4 and being so frustrated with the direction so no I definitely haven’t watched, but I did spoil the whole thing for myself. “Constantly struggling to justify its own existence” is the perfect way to summarize everything that happened post-season 3. They got a six season order when realistically they needed half of that so the show had to continuously manufacture reasons to a) keep June in Gilead b) away from Hannah and c) the country not in collapse. I always say that the show knew how to portray an oppressive society, but not how to depict a revolution. By season 3, it stopped trying to be a nuanced critique of misogyny and just turned into a thriller with an anti-hero protagonist.

Regarding the anon post I made about Sabrina, I'm not a white woman (cringe) My stance is from the fact that as Sabrina is a straight white woman. I don't know how a straight woman portray sexuality without implicitly appealing to men. Hetero dynamics tends to lean submissive for women, which is another tricky part. I think Sydney and her are different in the sense that Sydney had the Blue Lives Matter B-day + the Bathwater + the American Eagle thing. I'll wait to see how Sabrina moves forward.

Now feel free to disagree, but I don’t think heterosexuality is inherently misogynistic, but with the way it’s practiced in our society, those two concepts are intrinsically tied. There are valid critiques about how straight women center men and willingly engage in gender roles that oppress them, and that’s true for both Sabrina and Sydney. Sydney has taken this all a step further cause she’s not just fueling misogynists — she’s fueled racists too now. But I think people forget how the first AE ad (before the eugenics) was a close up of her chest to promote jeans. That’s gotten a little lost since the eugenics ad was released.

I have a slightly different perspective on Sabrina. I don't think she was trying to make a satire, but I don't think she was trying to be empowering either. I honestly think she was trying to portray herself in a kinky way, but it just fell flat. I'm not saying this to say that she is above criticism, I know that she has often uses infantilizing language and I hate that. I am just a bit iffy, because language around critiquing kink tends to lend itself to TERFS and SWERFS a lot of the time.

I totally agree that Sabrina wasn’t trying to be empowering either, but the issue is her fans were using that defense for the cover. There was this whole argument that through her use of “satire,” she was actually critiquing the patriarchy which is just plain ridiculous if you know who Sabrina is. The photo didn’t just fall flat, but I actually do think it communicated something harmful when a woman gets down on all four and lets a man pull her hair. There’s just no justification for letting yourself be degraded and compared to a dog. MY FRIENDDDDDD!!! It’s been so long 🫂 I apologize for how late I’m seeing this. As you probably know, I haven’t been using Tumblr much lately and I have notifications off so I didn’t even know about this message.

As for the Handmaid’s tale, I need YOU to tell me what you think of the final season. I went ahead and spoiled it for myself since I wasn’t keeping up with the show after season 4, but I saw opinions were mixed/somewhat positive. From what I can tell, the whole testaments sequel definitely influenced the kind of ending they could give the show which I hate. The Handmaid’s Tale used to be considered prestige TV and now because they’re trying to turn this into a franchise, it can’t get the ending it properly deserved.

#I’ve also been v busy #you might know this but I’m a teacher now and the job keeps me so unbelievably busy #I’m holding onto hope that I won’t be so crushed by the workload as I continue to grow in the profession #my second year was definitely less than my first #but man was the grading nonfucking stop #there just isn’t enough time in the world for that

#im in my second year of teaching #and in ways that are profoundly different from my first year #my second year has been very hard #but its not the students its not the classes its the adults i have to work with #and if someone did not tell me we only 40 school days left i would have lost all hope #for anxious reasons i can't really go into detail why i feel this way but teaching truly is a thankless job #and even though that is true i do have some teachers who really changed me in so many ways #and today i went to a celebration of life for one who made a world of difference for me #he was my professor and advisor but i just remember him as being my friend #i think back at the first time i met him and you never know how much someone means to you until you lose them #our first encounter involved me crying and bleeding and freaking out that i just made a decision to be a teacher #and that there is no way i can reverse this #and when i visited him a week before he went into hospice he told me what a lasting impression i left on him #i hope he knows what a lasting impression he left on me #i've always been a flaky person and i took a lot of pride for a long time in the fact that i didn't have someone to call a best friend #whenever i drifted away from someone i was always able to make peace with it so easily #i wasn't a wallflower but i never thought i needed people #but to have someone like him who was always reaching out and checking in and went the extra mile to build community #it made me realize how much i want to be there for people too #i learned that the night i visited him and the last time i saw him was one of his favorite nights and that it meant to so much to him #i hope he knows it meant even more to me

ENOUGH WITH THE REBOOTS AND SPIN OFFS ENOUGGGHHHHH

#first of all why is it always teen shows that they reboot like what for #second of all can anyone name a single reboot that was equally as good and popular as the original #only one I can think of that I would say was as good was 90210 but even that’s up for debate #but the gossip girl reboot? a train wreck from start to finish idk what they were thinking #the pll reboot had slightly more positive reception but even that came and went #compared to the crazy hype the og had. and keep in mind the og was terrible #but I could see the incentive to reboot both of these shows cause people were neither satisfied with the conclusion #of gossip girl nor pretty liars… but one tree hill? why on earth would you reboot one tree hill?#personally I find one tree hill boring but I know for most people that’s like the gold standard of tv #so why would you go and add more to something people were satisfied with #sure you get the hype but you’re also gonna be subject to so much more backlash if it doesn’t meet the originals standards #and one tree hill set the bar PRETTY FUCKING HIGH #if they wanted it to just be about another generation at tree hill high well fine I guess I mean just go and make your own show #do I see the necessity in calling it a reboot? no like just make your own show about two half siblings on a basketball team #but fine let’s call it that. however putting Peyton and Brooke in it means you’re going to basically ruin their character arcs #like there’s no way Lucas and Julian are coming back so you’re already gonna turn a lot of people away #and the elephant in the room is that most people are concerned about the Woke aspect #what I’ve seen in the past is that these reboots start off trying really hard to be politically correct to demonstrate how #it’s a different time now and things have changed #but I think they misunderstand how much modern audiences hate this? and let me make it clear I don’t have a problem with a show being h #socially aware. it’s that the way these reboots handle it is SO heavy handed and unsubtle #there’s just no nuance about it no actual depth it feels… tokenizing?? that’s not the right word #but like they just throw it in there like it’s a box to check before they forget about all of it #but not before you’ve alienated your audience #anyways this will be bad let’s enjoy!
