“You don’t ask people with knives in their stomachs what would make them happy; happiness is no longer the point. It’s all about survival; it’s all about whether you pull the knife out and bleed to death or keep it in.”
— Nick Hornby, How to Be Good

“Sometimes I keep my feelings to myself because it’s hard for someone else to understand them.”
— Unknown
Trying to move with grace is hard. Trying to not sit in your feelings but give yourself room to feel them wholly, no matter how deeply heartbreaking or ugly is hard. Trying to accept change that you've been resisting is hard. Trying to be optimistic and not terrified of the future is hard. Trying to be a support system for others and not a burden is hard. Trying to be okay because you know other people need you to be is hard.

i want to be inconvenienced by you. i want to wait for you, i want to hold your things while you do something else, i want to make adjustments to my plans to make space for you. someone at your side who takes up no space and has no needs of their own is not a person, but a shadow. i don't want a shadow, i want you. i want my life to be altered by your presence in it. please, inconvenience me.
I always try to serve a purpose to others so that my presence in their remains valuable... so that there's never a reason to get rid of me. I am learning still that connections and relationships don't work that way, but I still grapple with those feelings. Especially when I find myself in my "they no longer need me" spiral.

If you can’t do anything about it then let it go. Don’t be a prisoner to things you can’t change.
