Mako, in his own way, gave Tobias a droll expression. The ruins were rickety as hell, certainly scared the bejeezus out of Mako, but they had a mission. Mako had found something, something important about his heritage and, well, he had no family left. He needed something, anything that made him feel whole again. Like.. like he mattered to the world.

“Would you just like the damn lamp and- eurgh,” he grunted while holding up the door, “-get your ass over here, man?!”

Mako gave Tobias a rueful look and spread his grease paint-coated fingers along his friend’s cheek. “Listen, fucker, I love you.” He gave the man a big, smacking kiss on the forehead for it. “But you’re shit at sneaking and I really, really want to scare the ever-living shit out of Jos. So either you do the get-up or I sneak by myself.” He grinned broadly and smacked his back. “Or are you chicken?”

Noah eyed the back of the other vampire, observing as he lined up his stance and took a putt that slid way wide of the hole. Leaning against his putter he raised an eyebrow at Tobias, tossing his golf ball up in the air briefly before tossing it down to the starting pad. “You own this arcade and you call that a putt?” 

A light smirk played on his lips before he set up the shot. “You’ve got to read the breaks, see where gravity will take it,” he commented before taking his shot - which, granted, wasn’t all that much better. “Well, at least that’s what all the golfers seem to always say, fuck if I know.”

Son of a bitch, he was sure that was gonna go in. He groaned and backed away to give Noah room for his turn. “You know, for someone who acts all stiff, you sure do got a mouth on you.” Tobias’ eyebrows rose in play, pointing a feigned look of exasperation at Noah. “I’m warming up. Don’t wanna overwhelm you with my greatness, so I gotta break you in slow.”

Tobias leaned against his putter, huffing into a loud laugh as Noah spouted some technical bullshit. “Do those assholes even know what they’re talking about?” Tobias lined up his shot after Noah had finished. He put on a serious face and used his best pretentious British accent. “Pierce lines up his shot. If the wind catches it just right, his ball will be well in the breeze, and on it’s way to the glory hole.” Tobias tapped the ball, waiting with not-so-bated breath as it sunk into it’s destination. “Look at that beautiful shot, Phil. He stuck it right where he wanted. An amazing play by our most esteemed and gorgeous player.”

“Why we gotta do a trial?” Tobias asked as he scrolled through the article on his phone, lounging comfortably on Joslyn’s bed. “We know what the motherfuckers did. Just let the town have at ‘em.” Trials were a sham in a half from the experience he’d had over the years, and the witches of Salem would not argue with him there. He’d downright slaughtered people and blamed it on innocents before. And they’d gotten convicted. That was proof enough that this whole thing was pointless and they should just skin the bastards alive. It’d save everyone a hell of a lot of time and trouble. What the hell more could they need, anyway? To fly in that one person who could say they were angels just to make it all seem up to code? He’d been flogged with vervain coated whips for doing far fucking less than his worst, but sure, let’s give the supremacists a stage to tell their tragic woe-as-me story. Let’s give Madge’s killers a chance to play victim. He sighed, closing out of the article before he crushed his phone. “I wish we could just fuckin’ publicly hang these dudes like in the good ole days. Now that’d be fun.” @josblackwell

Tobias sidled up to Maxine during her break, looking around the rather empty arcade. Girl looked about as down as he’d ever seen someone be in an arcade full of bright lights and jubilant kids. He gave her a nudge. “Hey, no one’s hoggin’ The House of the Dead for once. Come be my second set of eyes so we can beat some punk’s record.” He hit the counter a couple times and walked out toward the game as if she’d already agreed. “I’m in the mood to kill some shit.” @maxxineking

Maggie’s phone had been ringing off the hook since the announcement that there would be a trial of the Clave members. It was time they put the issue to rest, and this was the only way it could be done, but it meant there would be a lot of sleepless nights ahead for the original. She was sat, for once, outside the Society Cafe, coffee in hand and a newspaper that had been left discarded on the table when she sensed someone nearby. “Sorry, did you want this?” she asked, holding the paper?

“Nah, I’ve seen enough of that shit,” he mumbled, plopping down beside her with a cup of coffee in hand. The trials were all anyone could seem to talk about. Not that he couldn’t see why, but still, he wished they could just deal with the little shits and be done with it. “I am kinda curious how you’re supposed to play impartial, though.” Everyone in Hollow Grove had been affected by these people, including all the council members who were gonna vote on the Clave members’ fates. Could she let Madge’s killers walk free if the time came, or was this trial really a pointless shit show just to cover their tracks should they get questioned about a verdict they’d all probably reached already. “Do they honestly have a shot in hell at getting out of this?”

“I did. You’re right. I just needed an entrance before just requesting more from you. You know, polite manners and all of that?” she tried to explain before reaching to grab one of his fries, offering him a smile as she did so. Well, so much for polite manners. “But since i’m stealing french fries I guess manners go out the window. Who needs manners when you’re friends.” she laughed. At his comment, she let out a hum as she shook her head, wishing the unnecessary blush wasn’t creeping up her neck. “If I wanted to take you for a ride, I promise I would be far more obvious about it.” Amber managed to reply, figuring that it was the best response. “I’m here for test riding all day.” she smiled, getting to her feet after he did. “I wouldn’t say they were daring days. I was just…sleeping with a guy back in New York who rode a bike. Or there were a few. I like motorcycles I guess.”

“Drama queen,” Tobias muttered with a roll of his eyes, though he didn’t hide the growing smile. As a drama king, he admired her efforts for a grand entrance. And lack of polite manners. “Good. Because that door’s always open.” He grinned more obviously now, a cheshire like expression to show that they need not be subtle there. He listened to her talk as they walked out to his car, and he held the door open for her. Thankfully, it wouldn’t be a long drive from here. “So she’s got a type,” he mused, pretending to think that one over. Tobias, a man who was everyone’s type, was intrigued by this revelation. Once he was in the driver’s seat, he squealed out of the parking spot and headed for his little slice of heaven. “Sounds like you don’t have to worry about not enjoying it anymore,” he said with a laugh. If she’d been that into it, he didn’t think that kind of thing would just vanish overnight. Especially when she was entertaining thoughts of buying one. “What made you finally wanna get one?”

“That’s cute,” the only words Ciarán could vocalize upon hearing what Tobias wanted out of the bet if he won. A complete contradiction to what Ciarán himself desired which was to end up on Joslyn’s good side not end up being a stripper for the woman, as amusing as both Tobias and Joslyn would probably find it. Swallowing his own pride, the vampire simply glanced up to meet the other’s gaze as his tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth as he contemplated the answer he already had determined, “don’t plan on winning.” Something the former Catholic could only pray about himself at this moment, that Tobias wouldn’t see through Ciarán’s elaborate tales. “Alright, Tobias Pierce, listen closely.” Ciarán himself began to lean his frame forward until his forearms were resting against the tabletop. “Two truths and a lie. The first, I consider John Dillinger a hero. Second, a woman has never slapped me across the face twice in one day and the third, you don’t know my real surname.” 

Oh, this was gettin’ good now. Tobias could almost hear the slight tinge of hesitation. But he mirrored Ciaran’s movements, leaning forward when the other man did to lean his forearms against the tabletop, smiling wide as he listened to the three options listed. He definitely planned on winning, but admittedly, he couldn’t know for sure if he would. So he mulled over his choices carefully, narrowing his eyes at Ciaran. Frankly, he thought those could all be true. Which made him wonder if Ciaran was tryin’ to get Tobias on a technicality, or if Tobias was overthinkin’ it. “That second one was pretty damn specific, so as much as I know a woman has slapped you, I’m gonna say the same woman hasn’t slapped you twice in one day.” Pierce wasn’t Tobias’ given last name, so he wouldn’t be surprised about not knowing Ciaran’s real surname. Ciaran didn’t seem the type to mimic or be into gangsters, either, which meant that could be a truth. “Am I right, or am I right?”

“It baffles me that you and Jos and Maggie all believe I have this quote unquote ‘wild side’ type persona that no one has seen in centuries. I would be highly impressed if you manage to draw such a thing out.” As Tobias went on Noah could not help but let his eyes roll a bit, a hand pressing to his chest in false dramatics. “You wound me, Tobias. I need help? I’m not sure I can trust your opinion when you’re giving such wild statements.” 

Noah’s fingers combed dark strands of hair from his face, an eyebrow hooking upwards. He had the sense that if he didn’t oblige Tobias to some extent he’d probably pay for it one way or another, so after a minute or two of contemplation he pulled the garment over his head, not quite in a Hulk like fashion as requested, but presumably better than nothing. “I’m not clear on what you’re hoping to accomplish.” 

“This is like that saying: If a tree falls in the forest and no one’s around to hear it, did it make a sound? If no one’s around to see your wild side, did it really happen? To which I say: you better fuckin’ believe it.” Tobias didn’t buy that Noah had been all business for over a thousand years. Was it seriously hidden deep down? Sure. Was it nonexistent? Nah. “I wounded you? I never took you for someone who didn’t like the truth.” A grin worked it’s way onto Tobias’ face. See, this was good. This was a start.

When Noah pulled his shirt off, Tobias raised his arms in the air triumphantly. Now they were really gettin’ somewhere. “That was an accomplishment all it’s own,” he said with a bright smile. The men and women of Hollow Grove could thank Tobias for this later. “But I’m hopin’ now that you ain’t confined by clothes, you’ll be able to let loose a little.” They needed something else to try, something else to get Noah in the spirit. “Henna tattoos,” Tobias decided with finality. “We gettin’ some tattoos, and we gettin’ them now.”

It was true; the Blackwell siblings had survived, if only a little worse for wear. There was something to be said for that fact - and Noah would probably be even more devastated if he’d lost Lukas, Joslyn, or Maggie. “I appreciate that. Same goes for you.” It was something to repeat, to think on the positive - it could’ve been worse. It could’ve been worse…but Noah hadn’t ever been much of an optimist. 

“We all could only be in one place at a time.” It wasn’t anyone’s fault, really, but that didn’t stop Noah from feeling guilty. They each only had a pair of eyes and so many to keep a look out for…it only took a second for everything to flip on end. They’d only just gotten Madge back into their lives – 

“Yeah,” he murmured, brushing his hair back from his face, “Feels like there isn’t much we can do about it.” They could interrogate their captured once the vervain left their systems, get answers - but he couldn’t fix everything. He couldn’t bring Madge back.

As he moved closer, she moved in a bit as well, trying to catch where his eye was looking so she could correct it if need be. “Well, some children don’t.” It was as close to a tease as she could get without her humanity on. “Cassiopeia should be nearby. Do I have to lead you to that one, or do you know how to find that one on your own?”
