Today at Reed

I’ve worked from home for one month now. I’m slowing building routines and adapting to this big change. It was a harder transition than I was expecting. I’m so lucky to have a spare bedroom I can use as my office and assistants to talk to. It’s a little bittersweet that my kick-ass Frankie pack arrived while I’m WFH. Since I always wear skirts to work, I never have pockets and always carry my keys and phone. This is the perfect solution to keep my hands free. Thank you, @frankieandcocopdx, for making a fanny pack that I actually want to wear. #todayatreed

Things are changing so fast. Over the weekend, it was decided to hold the rest of the semester (not just two weeks) online. Students are preparing to return home this week. I’m working from home and that’s also been an adjustment. I think it’s vitally important to stay home (if you can) and I’m so grateful that I’m in the situation where I can. I’m not sure when I’ll be on campus next, but when I am, I’ll post again.

This photo is completely staged. In reality. My cats aren’t allowed into the room where I’m working; they are terribly disruptive. Zor protested by meowing loudly and throwing herself at the door for hours; I wish I was exaggerating.

I spent most of my day dealing with cancelled events.

Right as I took this a hummingbird flew in to drink from this plant. I stayed as still as I could for as long as I could. The moment I moved, it was gone.

It’s duck mating season. A few moments after I took this, I saw ducks having sex in the lake.

Today we had a fascinating lunch seminar with Elizabeth Donaldson on the disability origins in graphic comics.

Today was my busiest grant day of the year! Applications for six different grants were due at 12noon. Such a frenetic and exhausting day; all grants are different with different moving parts and there are just so many emails (faculty letters, distant sponsor letters, panicking students, etc.).

On days such as Super Tuesday, I’m grateful that I no longer support the Political Science department. I’m already too overwhelmed by this election.

Today a student returned 487 dollars (mostly ones) of unused grant funds to me, which I returned to the business office. I’ve always loved counting money, so processing this was pretty fun.
