- I don’t have Instagram and Twitter and those things. Some people say I should get an Instagram to promote myself, but the person who would cast me on the basis of my Instagram account is … not someone I would like to work with.
If Tarjei Sandvik Moe were to google himself, he would get hundreds of hits. Half the world is writing about him – and more than anything about Isak Valtersen, his role in the TV-series Skam. Tarjei, on the other hand, they don’t know that much about.
- I don’t have a need for other people to take part in my private life.
He emphasises that he does not look down on people who are on social media.
- I just don’t want to be there myself. I don’t think that’s a disadvantage as an actor either.
It’s not Skam or Isak that is on the mind of Sandvik Moe. It is acting, it is the craft. In the coming year he is preforming the stage musical Grease, and starring in the film En affære. In the middle of everything he is going be russ and revue boss at the drama program at Hartvig Nissen school in Oslo.
- A day has a lot of hours. The worst thing is to be bored. I go crazy. I do stuff all the time. If I have a creative block, I just play FIFA and work on other stuff.
He writes, he acts, he works on new characters in his head. Ideas are written down, small scripts are worked on and showed to others.
- Most people who know me, would probably say I’m nerding the craft hard. I like to focus on just one thing: Conveying a story in a way that affects people. If I had tried to get very good at bandy, do skydiving or something like that, it would take up a lot of time that I could use for rehearsals.
The 18 year old is not, as many people might think, being run down with exciting job offers.
- I’m probably casted for more stuff because of Skam than because of talent. That can be a bit hurtful. I have experienced that several times, and pulled out of productions because I’ve felt that they’ve exploited me. You arrive on set and want to do the job, but the only thing they want is to take pictures and whatever PR-stuff. But I want to work as an actor, not be a PR-face.
In January, Grease premieres at Chateu Neuf. Sandvik Moe is portraying Doody, and has a large spot on the posters.
- I do know that Grease is using me to sell tickets, and that I wouldn’t have gotten that part without Skam. That is a bit weird to think about. I shouldn’t think about it. I guess it’s just how things work. Either way, I’m really happy I got the job and that I get to work with professional musical artists, says Sandvik Moe, who says no to jobs that don’t interest him.
- Today I had an offer to do a commercial thing for 15 000 NOK. I don’t want the money that much, says Sandvik Moe, who asks to not be portrayed as a “honest guy”. As he says himself, he is just doing what he wants.
- I’m just 18. Maybe I’ll read this in two years and think that everything that I’m saying is lame and naive, and that I’m just trying to seem grown up. That might well happen. But I don’t know anymore than I do right now, and I can just say that.
