Hi there!! I'm (hopefully) going to play MagiQuest with a friend soon, but I know absolutely nothing of the story or how the game works.. Do you think it's possible to get a super quick run down of it? Thank you!!
sure! it partially depends on whether youβre going to a location that still has Legacy MagiQuest or one that has 2.0, but gameplay is nearly the same! (Legacy locations, in my experience, tend to have more moving objects like simple animatronics or opening chests while 2.0 locations tend to have more screens which play animations)
youβll get your wand (which is how you interact with the world! wave your wand to collect items + cause other effects), go to a quest station, and accept your first quest to earn a rune. runes are, essentially, spells (in later adventures, youβll cast certain runes for certain effects)β the more runes you have, the more powerful a Magi you are!
the original way to play was to first go through all the rune quests and once you completed the Master Magi rune youβd do the adventuresβ this is my preferred way, but 2.0 splits it up so you earn 3 runes and then complete the adventure which requires those runes (this is good if you canβt complete the game in one day, but I still prefer the old way since adventures were meant to be a step up in complexity from rune quests)
Legacy MagiQuest will be immediately identifiable because it has live actors for most of the characters! MagiQuest 2.0 is entirely CG. however, storywise theyβre still similar! you receive your quests from the Questmaster, you complete various tasks from the inhabitants of the world in order to earn various runes, and then go on adventuresβ first to restore the pixies, then to defeat the goblin king and return the princessβ jewels, and last to best the red dragon Charlock in combat. (Legacy locations have an additional adventure, since they unlocked the previously MQO-exclusive Silver Dragon adventureβ 2.0 locations will only have the 3 standard adventures)
thereβs some deep lore about characters you donβt see in standard play when it comes to Legacy (Xavier, for example), which Iβm happy to get into if youβre interested! but the lore for 2.0 is fairly surface level (in that what you see when you play is really what you get). thereβs also some things that get mentioned in Legacy, like Clans, which are no longer implemented in play (so if you hear, like, Trixter or Woodsy or Majestic, those were all old clans that new Magi could choose between)
that is a very very brief and spoiler-free rundown of MagiQuest! but if you have any specific questions Iβm happy to go into more depth!
