MASS EFFECT 2: LEGENDARY EDITION | (136/?) ↳ Do you ever regret leaving C-Sec or the turian military?
from @alenk0s: i was hoping you'd say that.
❝ what , that i'll agree to grab a drink with you ? we're on shore leave after all . ❞ garrus walks alongside kaidan as they maneuver the crowded streets of the presidium , and the turian can't help his occasional glances SKYWARD . ships and cars fly overhead , dotting the fake blue sky with spiraling shapes and whirling movement . ❝ if we've got time to spare , i've got time to OUTSOURCE MY SORROWS and woes in a bottle of turian brandy . we'll come up with something . ❞ a little shoulder bump as they continue walking . beside them , one of the great lakes of the presidium is decorated with a gorgeous fountain — the light spray makes it onto garrus's armor . ❝ i still barely know a think about you , lieutenant . we've been on missions together , but we don't get any time to talk . maybe we can do that while shepard , tali , and ashley go running around this place for a while . ❞
from @croftborn: i like to expect the worst. there's a small chance i'll be pleasantly surprised.
❝ be careful , lara . you're beginning to sound a lot like me , and we've already hit our quota for wisecracking turians on the normandy . ❞ chuffing , he gives her temple a light bump with his nose as he passes — a friendly gesture considering their height difference . ❝ I DO THE SAME . swear i've said that line before , too . it's just easier to anticipate the worst out of everything , and then when good things happen , IT'S A MIRACLE . it's like a little present . ❞ garrus glances down at the weapon in lara's hands as she calibrates and cleans it . ❝ is that going well ? need a hand ? i've got two free hands just dying to help out with guns . and calibrating them . you know i like doing that . ❞ another chuff , this one faintly musical under his subvocals . ❝ whatever you need , you know where to find me . I'M PREDICTABLE . ❞
from @eternalzenith: "we can disobey suicidal orders? why wasn't i told?"
❝ that's what i'm saying . ❞ garrus tosses his head in amusement , turian crest rising in the air . ❝ would have saved us a lot of trouble had we known this . maybe next time we can just ignore the orders , get out of the big stuff before it BITES US IN THE ASS . ❞ he rumbles out a bit of laughter . it's all in jest — garrus knows neither of them would turn down an opportunity to help or go on a dangerous mission , but it's humorous to think of it like this , like something he or peter could just SAY NO TO . ❝ we should at least hear what the orders are before we decide to pass . maybe they're not a death wish after all . ❞ mandibles flaring , garrus grins at his companion . ❝ we might get lucky . ❞
from @flighlt: yeah, i see your point.
❝ it's nice when we agree on something . ❞ garrus looms behind the pilot's seat , eyes trained on the viewport above them . stars fly by , and the universe seems colorful and peaceful in a place like this . ❝ so what did you do after it happened ? ❞ he changes the subject , curious to learn about joker's choices after the normandy was destroyed . ❝ i know we all went our own separate ways , what with shepard gone . nothing to hold us together . ❞ and thank the stars she's back . ❝ but what did you do ? jump right in with cerberus , or were there other things you had to take care of ? ❞ garrus is careful to avoid talking about the destruction itself and FOCUS ON THE AFTERMATH — considering all the awful things joker must have seen in the escape , WATCHING SHEPARD DIE . . . he avoids that subject altogether and leaps into filling in other kinds of blanks . ❝ you probably could have just stayed with the alliance , but you chose cerberus . was it the missing colonists ? or . . . did the illusive man reach out to you pretty quickly ? ❞
Mass Effect III Legendary Edition | ▶ dev. Bioware
from @greenelight: need me for something?
❝ perfect timing . ❞ garrus lumbers away from his work at the battery console and over to his workstation . he jerks his head a little , encouraging mason to join him . ❝ during the last mission , you mentioned your gun's annoying kickback . it made it hard for you to stay on target . ❞ the turian gestures to mason's pistol on the table . ❝ borrowed this from your locker — i figured i could take a look , see if i had any mods to help reduce the kickback . LUCKY FOR YOU , I DID . now you shouldn't have any trouble . it's even easier to reload now , too . ❞ garrus places the pistol in mason's hands , chuffing contently . he's proud of his work , so much so that his mandibles flare into a turian smile . anything he can do to make mason's life easier , HE'LL DO IT WITHOUT QUESTION . ❝ you should try it out the next time shepard brings you out — see how it feels when you fire . if you need any more adjustments , just let me know . i had a gun like this in c-sec , always pissing me off until i found a good mod down at zakera ward . ❞ garrus returns to the battery console , but tilts his head at mason , browplates lifted . ❝ was that you singing in the hallway this morning ? some of the words didn't translate well in my omni-tool , but i assumed it was you . ❞
from @praysafter: an eye for an eye, a life for a life.
garrus releases a content sound , the kind that loosely rumbles between the space of his mandibles , and nods . ❝ so you understand why i want this . ❞ aside from shepard , thane is the only other crewmember he's told about his desperate attempts to find sidonis . ❝ he's responsible for my team — for their deaths . he sold us out . I TRUSTED HIM , and now i'd like to make him pay . ❞ it's rather humid here in the life support wing of the normandy , and as garrus loosely paces near the table where thane sits , he's reminded of palaven's similar heat . ❝ what would you do in my position ? ❞ he asks the drell , turning , studying thane from his taller stance . ❝ an eye for an eye , a life for a life . TEN LIVES WERE LOST THAT DAY , and i'm not willing to sit around and let him get away with that . ❞ his next sound rips through his subvocals , a sharp , pained noise to express the turian's discontent . ❝ you'd go after him , too , wouldn't you ? you wouldn't let him live . ❞
a low activity writing blog for garrus vakarian .
HE SAYS IT'S A HONOR, but to her it feels so instinctive. People immediately questioned her decision to bring aliens aboard the Normandy, but how could anyone imagine this crew without him? She leans against the edge of the console, arms crossed, taking an uncharacteristically relaxed posture, smile directed at the floor at first before she turns back to him. She needs no reassurance from him: he's here after all —— facing down certain death right alongside her, the devil surrounding them on all sides. ❛ You and your vids, ❜ she mumbles, a half chuckle, finding it all too endearing. But she notices his emotion stir; and she can't help but step closer. Her hand finds his, pinky finger wrapping around his own as they rest next to each other; it feels like the most important schoolyard oath ever made. ❛ I think I might just be the luckiest woman in the entire Terminus systems. ❜ / @turianrebel
he's still so new to this , all this navigating the swallowing sort of feelings that take hold of his chest and wrench security from his comfortable self . shepard puts him on edge , but not in a bad way , and not in a way that would make him upset or ask her to stop . garrus knows a regimented life of predictable assignments at c-sec , and he knows what it feels like to fill out paperwork and be STUCK SOMEWHERE . having shepard by his side must be the opposite of that feeling — no security , just the wind and the stars taking them where the mission leads next . unpredictable , beautiful , burning hot like palaven . when she latches her finger with his , the turian can't help the small chuff from escaping his mouth . he tilts his head downward . chuffs again . ❝ you're good at trying to make me blush , ❞ is all he can really muster , tone low as it filters through the translator . ❝ you keep trying . MAYBE IT'LL WORK ONE OF THESE DAYS . ❞
they watch him with curious attention as he taps away at indicators on the console, taking note of each action and adjustment made. they could, of course, have done this themself if they wanted to — there is very little she can't figure out on her own — but that would defeat the purpose of going out of their way to visit garrus and have him do it.
edi lacks the 'organic touch.' and she's okay with this, because the crew is special each and every one of them, including her. and so when he turns back to her, speaking of palaven and then deflecting in his typical manner to another topic of conversation, edi offers a small and easy smile. the smile still doesn't feel like theirs, but that's alright, too. it's a 'work in progress' as shepard had said.
❝ ...it is strange, ❞ edi begins, still staring garrus down with curiosity. ❝ i have experienced minor issues, some solved with software updates. but the crew regards me both as more of a person and more of an 'other.' ❞ her hands raise then to make air quotes with her fingers.
❝ in my research i discovered that this is something organics may also experience. being accepted by some and rejected by others for a change that one has made, ❞ their head tilts, deep in thought, gaze and posture still unwavering. inorganic. as usual. ❝ have you experienced this, garrus? ❞
it must be pretty jarring to be like this , to . . . well , be a ship , and then suddenly have mobility and choice , ACCESS MOVEMENT LIKE NEVER BEFORE . garrus can't really fathom that shift — he listens to edi speak , welcomes their input and their small peek into what this must be like , and nods along as she speaks . THEIR AIR QUOTES ARE AMUSING ; he's seen plenty of humans do that motion , and it's only after long conversations with shepard that he understands the meaning . the fact that they've already picked up the behavior . . . that must be a big deal . maybe she got it from joker ( he does it a lot , in garrus's experience ) . ❝ an other , ❞ the turian echoes , browplates furrowing a little over his eyes . ❝ is that what you feel ? I UNDERSTAND . ❞ she asks if he knows the experience well , and in a way , he does . ❝ or . . . i mean , i can relate , i guess . feeling like you stand out — it's how i felt on the normandy sometimes . THE ONLY TURIAN . ❞ he chuffs , head tilted upward as he studies them . ❝ does it bother you ? are you . . . able to feel upset by that treatment ? i think it's okay if you do . ❞
MASS EFFECT 3: LEGENDARY EDITION | (63/?) ↳ saying goodbye to Garrus
he's here
from @zoruh: i guess my father had something to do with it, too.
❝ i'm sorry about what happened . ❞ though he and tali have had their moments , their butting heads , THEIR CONSTANT CONFLICTS ( mostly from garrus's side — he's become aware of his own shortcomings when it comes to his misplaced commentary on the quarian people ) , he's trying to be aware of all the missteps he's made . he's trying to soften the blows , make up for the FOOLISH comments a younger turian said in the stupidity of the moment . the fresh out of c-sec officer was wrong about so many things , and maybe this chat with tali can start to heal things . ❝ i saw how you and shepard fought back and defended your father in that . . . that trial . ❞ trial ? IT FELT MORE LIKE A MATCH OF POINTING FINGERS . ❝ and i'm glad she protected you both . fathers are . . . complicated , ❞ garrus goes on , glancing at the quarian's helmet . ❝ and i'm sorry for everything . your loss . . . i can't imagine . ❞ a muted rumble . ❝ you okay ? ❞
from @solesoldier: ' there's nobody in this galaxy i respect more than you. '
❝ that's . . . an honor . ❞ garrus is caught off-guard by such a high compliment from shepard , and while he should be accustomed to such kindness from her ( considering the circumstances , considering their talk a few days earlier about easing tension ) , it still rattles the dislodged turian to his core . he recalls his speech about feeling like a bad turian , making mistakes , NOT FEELING WORTHY OF ANYTHING HE'S GIVEN , and shepard wipes that all away with one sentence . it's sweet of her . ❝ well . i . . . i don't remember this part in the vids . i remember mentions of — of compliments , but that . . . SHEPARD , THAT MEANS A LOT . ❞ as his visor whirs and his eyes focus on her face , he peers into commander shepard's strong presence and glowing eyes and feels a pang of something new in his armored chest . ❝ i'm with you . that's never going to change ; i hope you know that . ❞
