chairiel is the world's comfiest la z boy to me
day 2
these are getting weird
in episode 7, there's a lot of emphasis placed on zooble's hand, specifically the one that looks like jax's, whilst they're talking about coming to terms with their dysphoria and body, showing their similarities and the fact that zooble's learned something that jax still needs to. i suppose it could be an acceptance of change in general, since the archetypes jax has sorted them into are unchanging, but...
in the next episode, their hands are linked again by this specifically being the transition between the scenes. zooble's arm is different this time, but their hand is still purple, and a pretty similar shade to jax's. i think this detail makes jax's torture scene read even more explicitly as being about gender dysphoria to me; zooble's clearly is, and their tortures are deliberately linked together. it's the setup and payoff of zooble and jax both struggling with their bodies and their genders
in conclusion: this rabbit
is a transgender girl
Can she be any more obvious
she's been on my mind...
the fear of ridicule… the fear of being at the mercy of other people's judgement… the fear that people will take apart your protective shell against your will and see the true self you've been trying so hard to hide from them… oh transfem jax we're really in it now
anyways. jax and gangle's relationship is such a palpably clear example of abuse and im fascinated on how little that is touched on by the audience. the way jax despises gangle and her presentation. the way gangle gets to jax in a way that threatens her so badly. the way jax felt so targeted after his discussion with ribbit that he likely feels anyone could be looking at him and connecting dots he doesnt want connected at any moment. gangle being the most vulnerable woman in the circus at the time that jax can let his pent up frustration and internalized misogyny onto. the way jax named her. the way gangle cant get herself to cry when he abstracts. the heartbreak of seeing someone destroy themself so much that you can SEE the ripple effects. he self destructs so badly that the shrapnel from the blast just tears into gangle one million times over. the way that Jax denying her own truth led to her attacking what she saw of herself in others.
She looks so cute in her big bow
ok sorry still mad about people misinterpreting a certain Plot Point in the tadc finale so. under the cut
"oh so the trans character kills herself??? this show is transphobic" JESUS CHRIST YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE. Jax repressed himself to the point of abstraction, then Pomni finds a way to reach him even through his broken mental state, and the gang puts him in a safe and comfortable blanket fort where s/he can relax and get his senses back in order without hurting himself or others. The other abstractions get to be seen being happy and at peace. No it's not IDEAL but it's basically like having a mental break that just needs some care and attention instead of Cellar. We do not see any Abstractions get fixed but the episode does leave it open-ended as to how much they will one day be able to be reached, and the characters have eternity to figure it out. Jax finally opens up to Pomni in that headspace and it's far from impossible she can still talk to him in this state.
it's also not like Jax is the only trans/queer character. Zooble is nonbinary/genderqueer and makes it through the entire show, is given emotional depth and weight to their own dysphoria and character struggles, and then gets to end the show with their human self opening a successful (implied) queer bar and their digital self having epic gay sex!! (entire theater cheered and clapped at that btw)
like. look me in the eyes. do you think that a trans woman show creator would write a trans woman character just to kill her out of malice?? like do you think she was maybe trying to say something with the abstractions and Jax's repression and the fact there is still hope and time for him and his human self?? are we operating on this level of media literacy or are we just looking for things to get mad at
"i saw the tv glow is transphobic bc the main character never comes out"-ass thinking
I HAD THIS SAVED HELL YEAH GIRL (*^3^)/~♡
