EXPERIMENTATION ≠3 Cabinet de curiosité
The cabinet de curiosité ( curiosity shop ) would be the idea of the transportable memento mori (remember you will die)
Here the idea is to create a furniture. From the exterior it will look like a classic "design" furniture but as the "bureau of bureaucracy" by Renwick, when you open it will contain a lot of secret drawers. Each one will represent a symbol of death. As Richard Harris said it might be a collection about death but it will make you think about your own condition, your own life and you will forget that it's about death.
Other idea on the same theme:
Instead of making a furniture think about a sculpture build of boxes. Each boxe will contain a symbol of death but more as an allegory or a methaphore: Silence/nothingness/colors...
Think about the "nothingness" boxe look at a way to put a screen with a camera who project the mispresent face of the person who is opening the boxe.
Each boxe should be hard to open because death is still something not easy to accept for most of the people.
Think about the outside color of the boxe. First idea white because it's the purity but also representing the mourning for some asian cultures. Other idea find some vintage metal boxes. They would represent the idea of the life, the passing of time, the erosion of life.
==> black boxe: paint the bottom in black and polish perfectly the inside of the boxe to get a mirror effect to give the sensation of the nothingness. You will look at the boxe without knowing if everything is painted or if it's only one side. like an illusion.

=>yellow : Egypt=mourning; Eastern=Proof against evil for the dead, sacred,imperial
=>red : Celtic=death,afterlife; South Africa=mourning; Western=red ribbon symbol of people who have died of AIDS, red poppies use to commemorate the soldiers who died during the WWI WWII.
=>purple : thailand=mourning, widow
=>black : Cherokee=problems,death; Western=funerals, death
====> In this box you will see color without thinking they are directly related to death and exprime death. You will see the beauty of the color and so death as something who could be colorful.
