Ghast Harvest
Another game night! We had a new player, so ran a quick and amazingly bloody ZM game. After he left, we did a full SM game. Our special scenario for the week was Ghast Harvest. I rolled a 12, and there was no choice but to pick it.
We set up the board with my one fancy Deathworld terrain bit and 3 random plinths. I pointed out that the scenario rules allow for placement in our deployment zones, and was eager to start getting gathered! Brad felt that was a bit....cheesy, so we put them in reasonable spots.
Turn 1 was mostly positioning. I ran my Phyrr cat directly up to the harvest, and let everyone else maneuver around. We decided that since the cat counted as ganger, was smarter than most Goliaths, and it would be funny, she could harvest.
Poor cat #2 couldn’t make it all the way, but he tried!
Turn 2, the Goliaths made their way up to the harvest as well, getting ready.
I stacked up on the Ghast. And then the first harvest, by my cat. Â
I considered trying to resist, but gave in to the pressure. I rolled.
It was a 6.  Which meant my Phyrr Cat Grymalkin, WAS THE EMPEROR!
Which was hilarious (Spoiler: In the next 5 turns, he would only manage to harvest once more and finish off a Seriously Wounded Goliath).
I used Overseer to let the God Cat harvest again! He succeeded! And failed his resistance! And rolled a 4! And already had a power!
And then my melee champ harvested! And failed! And I rolled a 1! So my opponent got to control her! And she charged my leader, and killed her!!!!!
And then we realized that the Characteristic Check rules made no sense, and that rolling *under* made sense. So we retconned, and she just harvested and was done.
The Golaiths sent a steady stream of Combat Shotgun spam and Grenades at me, but Brad couldn’t roll above a 2 to save his life.Â
Seelie, my Heavy Bolter, gathered Yaksha and Orisha, my shotgunners, and went after the other Ghast.
Seelie took a shot! Completely failed to wound! Went out of Ammo! Did nothing the rest of the game!
Yaksha managed to harvest once before a Golaith with a Stimm Slugg and Advanced Stimms tactics charged 11″ in to us, and began to systematically dismember each of us. Seelie went in to recovery, but Orisha rolled an 11 on her Lasting Injury, feeling great!
Both sides did some serious pummeling!
At the end of a turn, I found out I had an emergency at home. We’d both bottled, so we rolled for drop. I won, and fled, since I had to leave. Brad told me he was planning to bottle if I hadn’t (And I wasn’t planning to, barring my forced exit). So hooray for high rolls!
However, only one Goliath managed to harvest Ghast, and he went OoA earlier on, so I came out with 4, Brad with 2 from the winning roll. And there’s no downside to losing, so we both did well.
Now there’s a new booth at the Penumbra (the premiere bar at the center of the Sisters of Samhain’s territory) with two bags of Ghast available for purchase!Â
