Regarding 椿みとしち's art

As most of you already know, 椿みとしち already deleted all her fanart from pixiv. I know a lot of us LOVED her work. But if she’s already so fed up with us to this extend to remove the pictures, I think the least thing we do is to sneak into her private twitter account, take her pictures and share it in public.

Why?

- Because they’re already furious at us. We’re not making it any better by stealing from private accounts.

- It’s actually extremely rude to a whole new level, to take from private account.

- While we’re still able to enjoy her art that she put up on twitter, we won’t want her to delete them from twitter too, do we? In this case, we will lose her art forever. And I really prefer to admire her art in silence.

For those who knows her twitter, great. Let’s continue enjoy what little UKUS she put in a private account. But I ask to please stop distributing them. I know a lot of people are nice enough to source back to her, but really. I don’t want her UKUS to disappear forever.

While I have no control over what people do, I just hope people at least will think about it.

Idk, still on the fence about this, as I don't have a clear explanation of what is appropriate in terms of posting/sharing art from pixiv (with source). If it comes down to it, I most likely wouldn't close it down, but maybe just stop posting. Though it's odd considering that the pixiv artist we're discussing had the share feature on for all her works so I just assumed it's fine.../sob To any one that wanted any of 椿みとしち's artwork, I had most of them saved. If you privately message me, I can send you a link.

Have you checked out this person's pixiv lately? ( 椿みとしち ) Unless I'm just seeing things, (or not for that matter) all their stuff is gone! Poof! I wonder why? I just wanted to ask someone else who likes their stuff why they think that it's gone.

You know, I did see that and I'm wondering if this blog (or tumblr reblogging in general) might have triggered this. I've actually been thinking about closing down this blog in light of what has been happening recently. Originally it was my intention to share what I found, with credit of course, and while it's a stretch to say this particular blog might have upset this person it's also not completely unreasonable to draw a connection... I can't help but wonder if I led some people into taking artwork and posting it elsewhere without credit. It's understandable if 椿みとしち took down her works if she was upset about this. I just feel horrid because she was def. one of my favorite ukus artists! :( I really don't know if she's going to update or when and with what. Wish I had more information to be honest!

Just a heads up

There are several angry pixiv artists on twitter and 2ch that complain about people taking their art without permission, edit them, and sometimes put watermarks on them. Even if they get credit, they didn’t ask for permission. And I’m sure you wouldn’t want your art to be edited, because that gives a negative impression towards the original artwork(Or so some illustrators think)

There was one thread on 2ch that started a small movement to have Pixiv’s regulations, making it only accessible to people inside Asia, until the US site was opened.

Though there are very few people who do ask for permission, even if there’s a language barrier, the illustrators will try to communicate back to the person.

Taking their art and posting, as in “Right click, save, upload” has no harm at all, since the regulations of art on Pixiv explains art in a way that is meant to be expressed visually. and most preferably, it’d be nice if the uploader posts the artist source of the image. Though a big no no is taking the art, editing it in any way, (excluding “Cropping”) and posting them, since that requires specific permission. It’s actually illegal in Japan to do this, and more of a crime to even put water marks. Though these laws don’t apply overseas considering it’s only a minor case within the whole entire political economy of Japan. Japan’s laws on art is much much more complex that regulations within the states or anywhere else in the world, considering how most of the profit comes from Doujin-work, and there are /a lot/ of illustrators in Japan.

The fact is, Japanese illustrators on Pixiv or anywhere else do not like their art to be taken and edited, and put water marks without premission. Even if you asked them, I’m sure they won’t give permission, considering the fact that editing a picture kind of tells the illustrators that “I want to make this art better-looking”(As so they think). I’m sure you wouldn’t want your art to be taken, edited, and posted without permission, with someone standing in the spotlight of the artwork, despite the art has been credited, yet no permission was given.

Pixiv isn’t going to be restricted to overseas, this may be an issue, but there are only a few artists who have the courage to express their anger to the moderators, and the rest just vent and complain on twitter or 2ch.

People that complain that their icons (cropped/edited from fanart from PIXIV) or graphics (cropped/edited from fanart from PIXIV/video from Nico Nico) have been “stolen” when other people use them, but it’s okay for them to be editing to make these said graphics, need to read this.
