Deryck on writing the first official single,“War”, off the upcoming album 13 Voices:
Q: Before you had mentioned something about “Walking Disaster”, that it was one of your toughest songs to write because it was so personal; with this record, did you find another song like that when creating it?
D: Yeah, I mean, there’s a song called “War” that was, it was an important song for me on the record because I wrote it right at this like tipping point of my recovery—the progress was so slow with recovering and I couldn’t walk yet, and it’d been almost a year, and everything just felt like it wasn’t getting better, and I could have easily just fell off and went back to drinking and stuff ‘cause I’m not getting any better, and you know, I might as well just drink away the last bit of my life, you know, “who cares?”, or I could push harder, and work harder, and try to get to where I’m trying to get to, and I wrote this song right at that moment. And, it was about fighting for what you love and, you know, harder than you’ve ever fought before. And once I had that song, I kind of like, “Well, I have this song now, so I kinda have to live up to it, ’cause how am I ‘gonna play this song?”, you know? So, that was an important song.
Q: Was that maybe like one of the first songs you put to paper for this record?
D: Lyrically, it was, yeah. I mean, I’d written some music and some riffs and stuff like that, but those were the first lyrics I wrote for the album.

“I am really excited to be releasing an album after everything I've been through recently. This new music represents the journey I've been on throughout the process of making this record. I had to fall in order to rise, and nothing feels better than to have something you love that you had to really fight for. I can honestly say that #13Voices saved my life and I cannot wait to share it with all of you.” - Deryck
