Martin Kukučín, real name Matej Bencúr, (17 May 1860 - 21 May 1928) was Slovak prose writer and dramatist. He was the most notable representative of first wave of Slovak literary realism. He is considered one of the founders of Slovak modern prose. His most famous works, that belong between Slovak classical books, are Rysavá jalovica (1885), Neprebudený (1886), Keď báčik z Chochoľova umrie (1890) and Dom v stráni (1911-1912)
