Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born in February 1818- May 1907 she was a former slave that brought her freedom. She turned civil rights activist and she became the personal dress maker and confidant of Mary Todd Lincoln. With great skills as a seamstress she was able to rise to prominence in both the black and white communities, effectively crossing color lines in a way uncommon at the time. She owned a lucrative business which serviced Washington's elite including Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis, and Mary Anna Custis Lee, wife of Robert E. Lee. Elizabeth also wrote the book " Behind The Scenes: Or, thirty Years a Slave and Four Years in the White House." The work which was both a slave novel and autobiography, which revealed a lot of intimate details about the Lincoln family. Happy Thursday everyone! Today I wanted to shine the spotlight on Carl Jones. When I found out and did my research on him I was very impressed. His clothes remind of a lot of the streetwear clothes we see today. Carl Jones Launched Cross Colours in 1989 w. Co founder Tj walker, helping to establish fashion marketing centered on black youth. Which single message is " Clothing without Prejudice." Carl Jones line has influenced the world of hip hop, sports, and pop culture. From Muhammad Ali, TLC, and Will Smith to name a few. In continuation of showing honor of Black history month, today I'm showing a spotlight on Ms. Ann Lowe. Ann Lowe was born in 1898-February 25,1981. She was a fashion designer with many high society matrons but is best for designing Jackie Kennedy's wedding gown. Ann Lowe's other high-profile clients included the Vanderbilt's and the Rockefellers. Ann Lowe also ran her own businesses, ranging from a Salon in Tampa, Florida in 1928, to her own shop on Madison Ave, which only existed for a short period of time. She also worded for Saks Fifth Avenue. She even continued to work and persevere after losing an eye to glaucoma.
