Delighted to see such a lovely display in the window of Stock Design here in Dublin featuring my Friesian Cow Print today. I was with my mum so extra special.
New oven gloves and pot holders conveniently displayed on the rail above the cooker at home!
My favourite pastime - is drawing my children. I recently did an etching course and the teacher thought that I should make some sort of portfolio - as with a portfolio I could do some of the excellent classes run by the RHA Schools in Dublin - so I am starting one today! I think I need three ‘drawings’ - so this is a pencil sketch of the smaller boy... It is only a two hour thing so there is no background. Here is also a photo of it after the first hour.. Quite a few changes.
Some photos from Carousel - the small trade show I took part in with designer friends in Dublin last week. It was great fun. We would like to thank everyone who came. Here’s to 2016
We are really looking forward to running our small trade show at the weekend. here is the look book for the event. If you would like to come or any details email [email protected]
today I am working on some sketches of my alma matter - I can’t really settle on a style for this. the one with the clouds is the most ‘finished’
Artysmarty, Jenny Walsh Designs, Lisa Ryder, Mianrasoaps, Heather Finn knitwear, A Box for My Treasure, Helena Malone, Saba, Ursula Celano, Green Gorgeous : We are hosting a boutique trade show together next January. It will be Fun for us all to do something together, we can share costs, we can add a bit of creativity, we can serve alcohol!!! It is going to be great. Please get in touch if you would like an invite.
Our designer run designer fair is happening on the 10th of December. We have had great fun figuring out how to ‘make it happen’ - I think three or four of us have worked on this flyer!! Please come if you are in Dublin. It should be great. Also, because there is no organiser overhead we have all been able to afford to make special products and will have good prices too!
I really love barred gates - is it the way they act as frames in landscapes or the slightness of them. I haven’t come up with any great creative ideas yet but I am always trying to figure out what might make a nice design..
Rosalins of Ranelagh
A nice photo of my products mixed in with some attractive ceramics. Thank you very much to Denise and her team. They are offering 10% off at the moment and I brought in a box of one offs and samples to be given away as ‘surprise’ free gifts - so call in if you are likely to be in the area. Rosalins is on Danville Road very near Beechwood Luas stop.
Got some new stands made this week from white perspex. I hope they won’t be too fragile!
Where is the time going?
My in house models are getting very old! Soon I won’t have anything that fits them.
Swedish Irish Textile Art Collaborative Project
I am involved in a textile art project working with 6 ladies from Ireland and 6 from KKV studio in Malmo. It has been organised by Liz Nillson who is a Swedish textile artist married to an Irishman and based in Dublin.
We spent last weekend working together on the farm of Pernille Holm (who is an amazing danish textile designer). I am contributing a very large embroidery piece. I only normally do embroidery for fun so it is interesting and quite nice to have to sit down and work on it. Pernille was completely inspiring. Olga Tiernan and I have decided that going forward we will ask ourselves “What would Pernille do?” before deciding on anything.
The video has been made by David Litter who is a sound artist working on the project with us. We have exhibitions coming up in Lisburn (from Culture night onwards) and then in Malmo in March.
Heather Finn (knitwear), Geraldine Murphy (Saba Jewellery), Eily O’Connell (fine Jewellery), Jenny Walsh (laser cut gifts & homeware), Karo (ceramics) and I have decided to start a ‘shop local’ initiative. Spend anything on any of our websites and get a 15% off discount from any of us valid until the end of November. It could be perfect for your Christmas shopping.
It has been really interesting for us to work together. It has made us all braver - things are much easier to try if you are not on your own. Hopefully our SMILE group will grow and we will do much more as a group. Get in touch with any of us for more information.
My favourite hobby is definitely garden visiting. A new favourite is Huntingbrook gardens just outside Blessington in Co. Wicklow. It is run by a young gardener called Jimi Blake and his dog ‘Doris’. Doris welcomed us on our way in and gave the boys and ourselves a terrific walking tour of the whole place then sorted us out for coffee and cake afterwards. It was all magical. I really liked the planting style too which was very modern and natural with no strong boundaries. It is definitely worth a trip.
new cow print just in. It is hopefully going to look very chic in the latest neutral kitchens - and of course all the other ones..
