In the wake of the mass killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, FRONTLINE looks for answers to the elusive question: who was Adam Lanza?

Aaawww this is adorable he spelled âhamterâ instead of hamster.
It seems like he actually spells it correctly in his original writing, but his handwriting is chicken scratch, so I donât blame whoever was tasked with making it legible.
Happy 21st birthday, Tim. Dying at 17⌠Some guys have all the luck.
Your take was good why you delete
I made it private. Should I put it back up? I think I came off a little aggressiveâŚ
did adam actually write this iâm cryingđ
Everybody thinks âSmigglesâ means âsmiles + giggles,â but I always assumed it was just a silly made-up word (akin to âsquigglesâ or âscribblesâ).
Happy Birthday Adam!
Today is Adams 33rd Birthday. April 22nd 1992 - December 14th 2012.
For today, I will be explaining stuff about me and Adam, how he has kind of changed my life and some other stuff. Even though he's long gone.
Knowing about Adam and his thinking, issues and more have really changed how I view other perpetrators. But in general just knowing about Adam has really changed my life and views on stuff that wouldn't have been changed if not for him, I lack empathy but one of the people I can feel the slightest of empathy for is Adam. He seemed like a sweet guy to know and an interesting person to be around, and not a-lot of people consider that about him and only view him as another âcrazy person gone offâ or a âbaby who didn't mean harmâ. Though yes he may have thought that he was saving kids, he isn't a baby nor a crazy person (although he did have some views that people do consider âcrazyâ). When I first found out about Adam, I was in a place in my life where I longed for a harmless distraction.
After the months of knowing about Adam and relating to him in ways I wouldn't believe, I can't help but feel a connection with him. Not in the way Nathan is with Eric nor how self-shippers are, it's just whenever I feel horrible and I feel like I'm about to spiral, I remember about Adam and I can calm down.
Adam has been in my life for only a few months, though it feels like I've known him for a few years. No matter what, I don't think I could hate him. I consider myself a half apologist for Adam, I don't apologise for his actions during the shooting (although, I can see what he was intending), but I am an apologist for his controversial words, views and ideas. I can't help but see Adam as an actual person. Not as a baby, a crazy person, a partner. But as a person in general. He is someone important in my life, and even though people have in-fact left me because of this, I've gained more people in my life who do respect me and my opinions considering Adam.
I find myself a bit happy that Adam is gone though, he has spoken about how he has had desires to die and how suicide is a âgood thingâ in a summary. Although I am sad that he isn't here to see the new stuff in the world and see the people who speak about him in a positive light, I am happy that he has finally gotten what he wanted. Death. Either in Heaven, Hell or just gone. He is still important for me, and probably important to you guys too.
My life before knowing Adam was one I don't wanna go back to, though yes I had friends who I do somewhat miss. Adam has impacted my life in ways I can't express with words nor synonyms. He's been in my life through my destructive habits, my constructive habits, my good, my bad, everything. He's basically my everything, and to that I say.
Rest In Peace, Adam. I forever hold you in my heart for changing my life.
Here's some fun-facts you guys may or may not have known about Adam.
Instead of having a grave, like majority of perpetrators. Adam has actually been cremated, though I do not know where he is right now. I assume he's probably in Ryans house (or apartment).
While he was still using Shocked Beyond Belief, an old user of it said in a reddit thread â He cracked the odd joke here and there, but never really posted anything worrying. I expressed my desire to move to America one day and he replied by offering to let me marrying him because I was "Awful purrrty" â.
Adam didn't like âPumped Up Kicksâ. He hasn't spoken about it (though if he has I guess I haven't seen it yet) but apparently, he liked it for a bit then started hating it. Either that he considered it cultural or he didn't like how it sounded anymore, I find that a bit interesting and funny:-).
Adam actually allegedly didn't like either of the Columbine shooters. I've seen some back and forth about this but majority of people saying he doesn't like either have known about Adam for years while people saying he liked Dylan, Eric or both only knew about him for a while.
Although people say his favourite animal is a hamster, it seems he had a preference for apes. Specifically chimps! Though yes, I do know he's stated he likes hamsters but that was when he was like 7âŚ
In his âhow to be paleâ tutorial, he stated that donating blood every 2 months was a way to stay pale. Going on with that, that means people in the world have Adams blood if he did actually do the donating blood every 2 months step!
I pay respects to the victims, though I also pay respects to Adam. Again, Rest In Peace.
Adam actually did talk about Pumped Up Kicks. He also spoke about Dylan and Eric on SBB. I think he called them faggots or poked fun at their motive, but truthfully I donât feel like combing through the whole thread right now. As for his favorite animal, I think he liked hamsters as pets and chimpanzees as a sort of primitive, ideal form of human, if that makes sense. Chimpanzees share 98%* of DNA with humans and are our closest relatives. They are majorly âculturelessâ to our standards (each group of chimpanzees has its own forms of culture; however itâs not as âelaborateâ or cumulative as human cultures). When asked by the Yale psychiatrist why he didnât look at people, explaining the information that one could learn from another person via facial expressions, specifically smiles, Adam responded: âSome primates smile when they are frightened.â
The first image is a collection of posts he made on SBB, and the second and third come from CulturalPhilistine: The Movie parts 1 and 5 respectively
Sorry for the poor quality of the SBB posts
*That may not be completely true. Iâm not a scientist, take what I say with a grain of salt.

The third image is a list of books found in Adam's possession, which included books on WWII and the military, like "American Military History and the Evolution of Western Warfare" by Robert A. Doughty, "We Die Alone" by David Howarth, "The Siege Patrol" by Ben Macintyre (if I'm not mistaken), and "Behind Hitler's Lines" by Thomas Taylor.Â
The fourth image is an account from one of Adam's 7th grade teachers at St. Rose of Lima, describing a "disturbing" ten-page paper he had written "obsessing about battles, destruction, and war."
