Okay so in order for her to accept comfort rather than push someone away, she's gotta feel really rough :3 a super long day. SOMETHING took up her time, whether that was training, a super long meeting, both? Both.
She started needing to go just before the meeting, but it wasn't that bad and she didn't want to be late... And more than that she didn't want Adam to inevitably ask where she's going. She can hold it, right?
Except she always finds herself bored in meetings and that means it drags, she scribbles extra notes, she drinks extra glasses of water... 👀 Barely halfway through her attention is split between paying attention and not squirming obviously. She cannot risk anyone finding out her mistake... But she'll be fine until the meeting ends, right? Even if it's taking a while 😬
She holds it until the meeting is over- just- but her day doesn't stop there. An oblivious Adam basically drags her to something, I was gonna say paperwork but he's probably running from that so maybe he just wants to hang out. It doesn't matter if she wants to drag herself to the nearest toilet and piss her heart out, she would rather die than say it. She won't even tell Adam if she's thirsty half of the time.
... Which means he's gotten into the habit of shoving a drink at her when he gets himself one. No wonder she's so desperate today. She almost, ALMOST makes it back to his place and honestly she's not even sure where the bathroom is there but she'll bite the bullet and ask- or she would, if she didn't piss herself on his doorstep.
It's so frustrating. And she's had a shitty day to add to it. She's tired and she should be angry but instead she's just sad. And Adam is looking at her with a horrified expression cause he's never seen her do that before and all Lute can do is pretend she doesn't want to cry too.
He knows her too well, plus he could tell she was upset when she didn't punch the wall or start yelling at him for not unlocking the door faster. So Adam lets her in, he closes the door and he just asks, "what was that all about?"
It's her final straw. Lute tears up, she tells him about her day and how she's been holding it all day, the amount of times she tried to slip off into the bathroom but something interrupted her, how she didn't want to be pathetic and yet she was anyway, and she doesn't even have any spare clothes here-
Adam listens. He can tell it's not the time to make a joke, so he waits until she's done talking. He doesn't quite apologize for his part in her not being able to go pee sooner, but she can tell he feels bad about it. He lets her shower, gives her a spare shirt of his to wear for now, and while she's taking time in the shower he brainstorms how to comfort her. He doesn't know really what she finds comfort in, she's always so stoic about that kinda thing.
Turns out the thing she needs is reassurance. Lute comes out of the bathroom, obviously having cried, apologises for her outburst and asks if she looks pathetic and weak after that. He's more than happy to tell her that she doesn't, that she just had a bad day and it doesn't mean anything. But he is absolutely keeping an eye on her on future long days. He knows she won't excuse herself but he can at least leave her alone for 5 minutes so she can sneak off and take care of what she needs to in a dignified way 🥰
