The moon is waning so what better time to do protection spells than now? (you can do protection magick whenever, I just like a little boost from the moon phase)
In my previous post I covered some warding methods and now Iâm gonna go over some spell recipes
Protection oil
honestly, chefâs kiss, iconic, itâs probably my most used oil. You may apply some on your skin, anoint candles, talismans, charms, etc.
what youâre gonna need:
a carrier oil of your choice. Here are some of my favorites :
castor oil is great for absorbing negativity
coconut oil has protective properties
olive oil is an all purpose oil
sunflower oil
almond oil
essential oils:
some great essentials oils are lemon, peppermint, sage, frankincense, orange, cinnamon, benzoin and cedarwood
herbs:
cloves, basil, rosemary, garden sage, angelica, mint, bay leaves
Use whatever you have on hand, it doesnât need to be expensive. Some of these ingredients are probably in your kitchen already.
I dropped in a small piece of tourmaline for some extra spice
After it was done I used a black yarn to tie a bay leaf around the jar
Black salt
Black salt is a must have in a witchâs apothecary and itâs fairly easy to make.
Youâre gonna need a mortar and pestle to grind up the ingredients;
any kind of salt,
ashes from previous works or incense,
activated charcoal (itâs not necessary so donât stress if you donât have it around)
frankincense resin (again, not necessary)
crushed eggshells
While grinding the ingredients listed above make sure to focus on the intention of being protected, meditate on it if you can
You may sprinkle some black salt in the corners of your house, at your doorstep, anywhere really (donât add salt to plant soil though)
Rosemary water
Rosemary can be used to cleanse your aura and promotes protection
Add rosemary leaves to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for about 20 minutes
Pour the infusion into a spray bottle and youâre done!
Given the fact that rosemary water is great for the scalp and stimulates hair growth Iâd recommend this method of cleansing and protecting to people who are in the broom closet.
Eggshell spell
I donât neccesarily enjoy making spell jars and I find using an eggshell instead of a jar really convenient (and cheap lol)
Cleanse the egg and add salt/ black salt and some protective herbs, one at a time, thinking about what each thing represents and how it relates to your intention. Seal it with wax and youâre done!

pick a cardâ your next (platonic or romantic) love
âItâs pouring, the trees are getting greener before my eyes, I love you. Iâm almost afraid of the intensity of this happiness.â â Vladmir Nabokov, Letters to VĂŠra.
Whether a friend, a lover, a companion â platonic or romantic â who is going to love you next? who are you loving next?
1. THE FIRST.
A young woman or a girl, maybe younger than you - or at least seems to be. This is definitely a platonic relationship, something that has been going on for a few lifetimes already. Quiet, almost melancholic. Tired all the time. Water sign; Cancer or Scorpio. âWeird little girlâ vibes, but has the mentality of a 90-year-old grandmother. Likes reading or is just generally smart, almost crossing the line to âa little bit cunningâ. The type of friend that doesnât like going out of the house; a good listener, loyal to a fault. You two will end up very close friends. Probably the youngest of the friend group, someone who everyone is extremely protective of. Introvert. Sensitive, intuitive. Been through a lot.
If youâre pregnant, planning to be or considering adopting, this might even reference a future child. For people who have no interest in having children themselves, thereâs a possibility of this being about a future sister, a niece, someone from your family or related to someone you consider family.Â
Words associated with both this pile and this person are â Melancholy. Knowledge. Guidance. Magic. Fate. Water. Beach. Rain, summer thunderstorms. Butterfly. Lamb. The moon.Â
2. THE SECOND.
A man around your age, maybe just a few years older than you. Trustworthy, calm. The lighthouse in the middle of a sea storm, a beacon of cold light. Earth or fire sign. For most of you, this is going to be a fraternal relationship - to others it will end up romantic. Might also be a relevant past life connection.
He might be a teacher, a lawyer, a writer. Has high standards, prides himself on working hard. Honest, but compassionate. Might appear aloof or distant sometimes - a little bit boring. Has the tendency to bury himself on his job or hobbies. Likes to be alone; an introvert, with a tendency for isolation. He resembles a pine tree, standing tall, watching the world both grow and die around him.Â
Words associated with both this pile and this person â Glasses. Magnifying glass. Winter. Fireplace. Smoke. The coldness of burning. Ink.Â
3. THE THIRD.
A woman - a butterfly, the type that lives just one day; but lives either way. You two might have a platonic or romantic relationship, depending on who you are. Sheâs an ambivert, with strong Leo and Capricorn vibes. She feels like a comfortable CafĂŠ, like the throes of a warm affection, fondness, dripping gold.Â
Fiercely loyal to all of her friends, capable of being almost apologetic. Probably has some unhealthy tendencies regarding relationships and understanding boundaries, though is not inherently malicious. Likes meeting new people and hanging out in calm, family-like places.Â
Might be an artist, a painter, someone that enjoys doing things with her hands. Other people may see her as lazy, but, really, she just enjoys life and enjoys doing nothing but that. I have the image of a cat basking on the sun coming from the kitchen window. And The Caterpillar, from Alice in Wonderland. A true wild heart.
Words associated with both this pile and this person â Gold. Summer. Warmhearted. Lion. Laughter. Sand. Garden. Hands. Secrets. Breeze. Fondness.
This can be done right before any kind of Sun magic or working with Sun deities. Itâs also a easy way to recharge your personal energies. If youâre tired and in need of an energy boost during the day use this exercise to recharge your energy levels. Itâs also an excellent way to raise energy for any type of healing work
đIf possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
đ Close your eyes. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Take 3 deep breaths in-and-out and allow your body to relax.
đTurn your hands palm up, raise them to the sky (if thatâs comfortable, just resting them on your lap, palms open, works just as well). See the Sunâs energy streaming towards you, and then draw it between your hands until you hold a fiery, golden orb of light.
đSlowly lower your hands. As you do, see the Sunâs energy filling your body. See the Sunâs energy filling your head then lower your hands to your chest and see it filling your heart in the core of your being.
đLower your hands again and see the Sunâs energy fill the lower part of your body, going down the soles of your feet. Repeat as many times as you wish.
đGrounding Sun Meditationâď¸:
This meditation is my favorite way to ground. The sun and earth work in harmony to bring you balance and strength.
đ If possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
âď¸Hold your hands palms up. See a ray of golden light shining on you. Concentrate on the light. Concentrate on emotions being felt and physical sensations. Feel or imagine its warmth on your skin.
đTake a deep breath, and as you do, see the sunlight filling you. Take 2 more deep breaths, or until you feel filled with sunlight.
âď¸Now place your hands Palm down on the ground to either side of you. Imagine reaching down through the Earth - down, down to the fiery core of the planet.
đTake a deep breath and, pulling up the fires that are at the heart of the Earth, take 2 more deep breaths until you are filled with the fires of the Earth.
âď¸Place your palms over your heart. See the golden sunlight in the fires at the core of the Earth mix and blend as they fill in circulate through your being.
Something that I donât think enough people cover when it comes to The Craft, is how to keep yourself protected when doing spells and rituals, or communicating with spirits. This is a very basic aspect of witchcraft, so Iâd like to take a moment to go in depth on the topic to make sure that as many people as possible, can find something that will work for them! Of course though, there will be some methods that I either donât have experience with or may have simply forgot to mention. Find what works best for you and your practice, and look at some other articles or books as well!
Centering
First off, what is centering? This is basically you preparing yourself and getting in the mindset of doing a spell/ritual. This is taking a moment to yourself to make sure youâre intentions are in the right place, and everything is set up and ready to go. Centering isnât too difficult to do, so thereâs honestly not too much to say on the topic.
Method
I like to begin centering with meditation. Relax yourself and get into the âwitch headspaceâ, if you will. Cleanse yourself, and maybe even take a shower or a bath. Next thing is to gather your thoughts, write some questions down on a piece of paper or on your computer and answer them. Things like âWhat is my motivation?â âWhat outcome do I wantâ âHow do I want to do this?â If you really take a moment to understand what youâre doing and where your heart lies, your spell will be at itâs most effective.
Grounding
Grounding is an important thing to do after any spell you perform. While it doesnât necessarily hurt to do before a spell, it can limit your meta-physical performance. Grounding is connecting you back to the earth and bringing you back to your physical body, getting your head out of the clouds if you will, and sometimes when performing a spell thatâs where you want your head to be. If youâre working with any earth based magick though, this can greatly help, so just figure out what works best for the kind of spell youâre doing.
Methods
Roots - This is my covens favorite method to ground. This is basically where you have a meditative moment, plant your feet on the ground, and âsink your roots inâ. First thing you wanna do is get in some kind of contact with the ground or floor, just anything that is a solid foundation. Plant your hands or feet flat and start by breathing deeply. You wanna really take in the energy from the earth, pay attention to all of your surroundings and take in the moment. Next close your eyes and start focusing your energy at your hands or feet. (You may feel your hands start to tingle or even go mildly numb) Lastly, release that energy and push it into the earth. Let it soak in deep, and if visualization helps, imagine your roots growing down.
Going outside is another very good method to reconnect with the Earth. If at all possible, I like to go outside barefoot and feel the grass on my feet. Really connect to the earth, take in your surroundings and walk around as much as you feel comfortable.
A Dump Stone - Just about any stone will work, but generally stone that come from bodies of water, have holes, or are green or black tend to work the best. Basically just hold the stone in your hand and let any and all negative energy flow out from you into the stone. Stones can handle quite a bit of negative energy so donât be afraid to let it all come out. After youâre done though, youâre immediately going to want to cleanse your crystal with whichever method works best for you. I prefer to let mine sit in salt overnight, or until the feel done.
Drinking a cold glass of water, splashing cold water on your face, or even taking a really quick cold shower is also a really good way to ground yourself. Itâs all about being present in your body, and nothing can bring you back into the now like some cold water can.
Shielding and Wards
Shielding yourself is important when it comes to any kind of magick, because there truly are negative entities and energies out there that like to take advantage of people. Itâs a sad truth, but this is why we learn to protect ourselves spiritually. Putting up a shield or ward isnât difficult, and sometimes you do it without even realizing!
Shielding Methods
Visualization - This is my favorite method to teach beginners because it doesnât require any tools just you, and yourself. The begin, start by getting into a calm relaxed state, maybe even meditate before hand. Next, imagine a ring of light around yourself starting at your feet. This light can look like anything, be any color, and be any shape so the only limit is your imagination. Once you have the ring of light, imagine it slowly coming up around your body, let it fill your heart with warmth and let it remind you that you are safe spiritually and no negative entity can harm you. Once it has made a complete bubble around yourself, say some affirmations and remind yourself that youâre strong and can handle anything. The more you believe in yourself, then the stronger this shield will become.Â
Smoky Quartz or any other black stone, when kept on the person or placed at the feet can create a ward as well. For those less imaginative, this is a very good alternative because you have the crystal to support you as well.Â
Magick Circle - There are many ways to open a magick circle, but heres a really simple method. Hold one of your hands out, palm up and focus your energy in your hand. (You may get that warm, tingly, or numb feeling, if not though thats okay!) Really let it bubble up into your fingertips, and once there, point a finger out and draw a circle around yourself and say some simple affirmations of safety and peace. Just like the visualization method, this works best the more you have faith and believe in yourself.Â
Simply stating that you are, or feel safe is another way to shield yourself spiritually. You remember how when you were little and alone in your room at night and you thought you heard something scary? You covered your head up with a blanket right? Do you remember how safe you felt after doing that, like how nothing could get you? That was quite literally you putting up a shield. Remember your intentions and feelings are the most important thing in magick, always keep that in mind!
Warding Methods
Wards are another variation of shields, but these are things you put on the physical plane rather than a spiritual one.Â
Runes/Sigils - A really good way to set up a ward is to carve or draw some runes either into the side of a doorframe, a candle, or even on a piece of paper to burn later! If youâre going to carve them into wood or draw them, charge the tool youâre going to be doing it with. If your going to use a candle, burn the candle whenever you feel like you need it most! And as for burning paper, keep the ashed around and maybe even sprinkle them into every corner of the room.
Salt - Put lines of salt on the top of your door and window frames, and sprinkle some in every corner of the room.
Stones - Certain stones are said to be warning stones and will break if danger is near by. Malachite is one of these stones, and is fairly easy to get your hands on. Place this stone above door and window frames as well.Â
Holy/Blessed Water - A drop placed in every corner of the room creates a barrier around the room.
Brooms/Staffs - Place in the corners of rooms, and said to fall over if danger is near by.
Black Candles - Burning a black candle is said to bring protection and keep a room hidden from spirits.Â
Often known as the witchesâ new year, Samhain is the pagan festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter. It is said that the veil between our world and the spirit world is at its thinnest. The celebration usually features a bonfire, and rituals of communion with the dead.
Rituals to celebrate:
𼳠With people, tell ghost stories or watch scary movies.
đ˝ď¸ In the kitchen, make a pumpkin soup.
đ¨ Get crafty, by carving a pumpkin and lighting it at night.
đ Dress up, as a witch and let people believe that itâs just a costume.
đ Write in your journal, about dead relatives and loved ones.
đŽ Meditate, about the concept of death, your family tree and your ancestors.
Other ideas to celebrate:
Give offerings to the spirits by adding a plate at your table.
Harvest the last of your herbs before winter.
Use the night for spell casting, divination, and reading tarot.
Take a walk in nature, preferably near or inside a cemetery.
What can you learn from your dead relatives or family members? How are your ancestors currently supporting you, giving you guidance and advice? What messages should you take into consideration?Â
2. PRESENT - Banishing negative energiesÂ
What behavior, bad habit or negative energy are you ready to banish from your life? How can you facilitate the work of releasing this energy into the darkness of Samhain? What do you need to let it go?Â
3. FUTURE - Outlook for the new year
What will be your guiding light in the dark season ahead? What major event or theme will unfold in the coming year until the next Samhain? What should you focus on to improve your craft and witch practice in the new year?Â
