People probably don't remember but tennis in early 2000s was a pretty niche sport before Federer, Nadal, Williams and Sharapova blew it up with big sponsors and big prize money.

Like def not the millions we're talking now, a lot of the athletes barely even have a nutritionist yet alone the sport psychologists everyone seems to be travelling with these days. It def wasn't as cool as it is now, in fact it used to be pretty geeky to be a tennis fan lol.

This also means the athletes were actually rooming together and sharing hotels and hanging out on tour a lot more than they probably do now, where stars get a lot more VIP treatment and private spaces.

Most of the country teams are pretty close. Andy Roddick, John Isner, and the Americans are pretty famous for their pranks, and the Spaniards for their playstation tournaments lol. Occassionally this did cross country lines, as Andy Murray used to get invited to play FIFA against the Spaniards in their hotel rooms.

Some spicy times as well, Djokovic and Andy Roddick had a pretty big bust up in the locker rooms around 2008 l think and the ATP locker room gossip is basically worse than the WTAs.

Federer seems to be the least gossip-free, apart from that he has a nickname for everyone except Nadal which he just calls "Rafa" lol and even him and Stan Wawrinka had a pretty nasty fight in the locker room in 2014.

Nadal, Murray and Djokovic actually grew up together and were a lot closer than people think before Nadal kinda broke apart and chase after Federer's records. Here's Murray talking about the pranks him and Rafa played on each other
