You Sure Took Your Time!!
The practice of visiting Card Capital had fallen onto the back burner with that hectic series of events and the domesticated lifestyle that had become his own. Practicing, training, heād been meaning to check the build of his deck against other Clans, someone who didnātĀ live under the same roof.
And in the midst of reviewing his deck near the back of the building, the door slid open, the bell ringing as always, but over that - a bellow. And a rather breathless one at that.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āKai-kun?ā
His initial presumption was the brunet standing in the doorway was his partner, but no⦠he wouldnāt have hollered in such a panicked tone unless something had happened, and even then, heād have just called. Prying himself from the seat, he staggered away from the table and towards the disheveled figure almost slumped in the threshold.
Ā Ā Ā Something about him was different⦠was it really possible⦠that he was the sake Kai who would frequently wind up tangled within the belly of the underground circles? But the last thing heād known, that Kai lost all recollection of him, and with cause of that still lurking, was it really possible the spell had been broken?
āWhat is it? You⦠remember?ā
Okay, good--great!--Aichi was here, just as he suspected, and looked no better worse for wear than he had. At least nothing had happened to him subsequently to his negligence... heād never be able to forgive himself if that had been the case. āI do.... you know who I am, right?ā A stupid question, but Kai was also a flurry of confusion right now. Shaking his head and stumbling in, he took a seat in one of the nearby booths, rubbing his temples before looking back up, still looking as troubled, if not even more so, than he had entering the vicinity.Ā
āHey... Why did I forget? And why just you?ā What made him remember all of a sudden? was a more important question to ask, but slipped his mind ultimately.
THIS IS THE ćććć ę«!
You Sure Took Your Time!!
It hit him like a ton of bricks--like, literally, as if a wall came crumbling down while Kai was absent-mindedly wandering the streets and threatened to send him reeling to the hospital with a severe concussion. His head swam with overwhelming amounts of memories--of Aichi, of the days they spent together, of his own foolish mistakes--and what could he do about it all? Just hobble and lean against the nearest surface idly, composing himself as he made sense of it all. Wait... no... most importantly... before anything else..!
āI gotta.. see him.ā He had to see Aichi, first and foremost. Before the clarity, before he could question where and what he had been doing with partial amnesia like this for months, Kai had to go see the aforementioned cardfighter and apologize to him--for making him worry and panic (and cry) when he had probably needed him most--and let him know that they were, indeed, still friends.. Turning on his heel and with a quick sprint down the boulevard, Kai made his way over to Card Capital, where he usually knew to find the other (dear GOD let him be there this time!) or anyone who knew him that could point Kai in the right direction at least. Barging through the doors, a breathless and disheveled mess, Kai frantically looked around, trying to spot that short head of blue he knew better than anyone. āAichi...?!ā
Comes back a million years later-- Anime arc is already over? This is fine.
"I am too!! Iām 16, I can drive." Aichi gave a small pout towards the other before plopping down on the ground.
"I donāt like trains. Last time I used one someone was touching one of the girls without her permission."
Ā "Need to be 18 to drive in Japan, pee wee." "Ah, I gotcha. I could always protect you from those lecherous old men if that's what you're afraid of though. What about the buses then? It's pretty much free as long as you've got you're student I.D. on you, last time I checked.Ā Why is this conversation so normal..?"
"Kai-kun! Teach me how to ride a motorcycle."
Ā "First of all you're not even old enough, and second... Niether am I." "Stick to the train system, kid."
"I am no longer allowed to wear skirts outside of the house. On the brightside, I wasnāt planning on doing it again anyways.
Also, I bought a motorcycle. No clue how to drive it but I own one now. ā
Ā "That's too much power for one Aichi to have."
#i was going to start a thread here but i forgot that kai has forgotten aichi :ā3c
*switches out drink for something stronger*
Ā What? Are you switching out 2% to whole milk? Watch out Void, we got a badass over here...
Screaming all that left Aichiās throat sore and throbbing like someone had clawed the inside until shredded, holding back the loudest of his sobs wasnāt helping matters, focused only on clutching onto the brunetās jacket, tears squeezing their way out from his closed optics.
His hands trembled with that hold, the tightest he could muster out of fear that Kai might try to remove them, brush him off and go on his way like nothing had happened. And even though his tone had calmed down, those very words scorched Aichiās frail heart even with the gentle manner in which they were delivered, failing to numb the pain in any way.
"I promise, I- Iām not. Please, youāve got to believe me. Th- There are other people losing their memories o- of me, b- but you⦠YouĀ are my friend. My best friend. And w- weāve gone through a lot. I- I just wa- want you t- to see that. Please⦠please donāt let them t- take a- away e- e- everything. Kai-kun pleaseā.
This kid.... he was way too desperate to push away. Even if his words seemed like utter nonsense, Kai couldn't just abandon him now that he was breaking down into hysterics like this. He had to.. take some responsibility, at least.
Ā "Look.. I'll walk you home, all right?" Resting his hands upon those quivering shoulders, Kai began to sympathise some. The other was unwell, that much was evident. But whether or not all of this memories stuff was relevant to it not, Kai wasn't sure. "So stop crying..." But what he did know was that, deep down, he was a goody two shoes at heart who couldn't ignore someone's pleas for help.Ā
"Iāve fought both of them before and Iām sure I can do it again. I do agree, it wonāt be easy fighting them."
Ā "You're a great warrior and hero; A beacon of hope for those in despair." "I only regret that I'm not the one that gets to see Ren again. But you'll have to give him and Blaster Dark my silent regards."
//Heās about to fight him later on this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;w;
"I guess soā¦But soon, I have to face him againā¦"
Ā "Blaster Dark is the avatar of someone incredibly important to me... He's no pushover, that's for sure. The both of them. You think you can handle it?"
"Noā¦Ā No, Iām not letting you do this. Iām not letting you go! You canāt let them do this to you!ā
The sharp stride forward was enough to push Aichi back another three steps, but his shuddering shoulders moved more violently than any other part of his body; his chest stinging with that wretched empty feeling from another friend losing all memory of him. Intensified that it was Kai of all people; did that mean the others werenāt even immune like heād been led to believe?
Ordinarily, he would have shrunken completely under that looming presence over him, but so distraught by what was happening - so suddenly and with such great impactā what was logical thinking? Lost upon him, it seemed, as he seized the front of Kaiās blazer as tightly as possible, tears spilling over the corners of his sockets messily. His voice shrill and frenzied, words blending into one another in that hasty and panicked plea for that one thing. Something that might help him recall.
"Iām not moving! I canāt let you go and wind up the way you were before! Please,Ā please remember me, Kai-kun! Donāt let them take away everything, youāve got to fight it, you can do it, youāre stronger than this, Kai-kun. Please listen to me, remember it!Ā Remember it, Kai-kun!ā
Kai could have so easily shoved this shrimp to the pavement with the lashing of his arm, but... the moment those tiny fingers gripped into the fabric of his dusted uniform, he stiffened up, becoming entirely immobile as he was forced to listen to those desperate words.
"...Donāt let them take away everything, youāve got to fight it, you can do it, youāre stronger than this, Kai-kun. Please listen to me, remember it!Ā RememberĀ it,Ā Kai-kun!ā
Why... is he using my name so familiarly...? Just what is this? Some kind of sick joke? Ā Suddenly, he felt more ill than he ever had before, falling to a deathly shade of paleness as he stared down at the smaller with trembling eyes. He didn't understand; He absolutely had no idea who this kid was, there was not a trace of his presence within his subconscious... And yet those tears were far too honest to deny. Ā "Look..." Kai took a deep breath, evening his tone as he attempted to be sympathetic of this poor guy's situation. Perhaps he was just lost and confused... Yeah, that had to be it. "--I'm sorry, but I really don't know who you are.. You must be mistaken."
"Donāt do this,Ā please. Youāve got to remember me. Itās me; Aichi! Sendou Aichi! Doesnāt it mean anything to you? Everything weāve been through? Kai-kun, d- donāt⦠donāt let them take all that away, please Iām begging you!ā
There was only one thing that could have been worse than contending with this Kai having lost all recollection of him. One thing that would have pushed him over the edge. But thisā¦Ā really wasnāt that much better. And with that new demeanour of his, Kai was colder than ever.
ItĀ scared Aichi, just how distant heād become all of a sudden. And the pain it etched within him⦠was incredible. He wanted to reach forward, take hold of a sleeve and try to make him see sense, but given that foul mood of his, doing so might only provoke Kai further. And he was terrified of the idea that Kai might just lash out.
Ā "It doesn't mean a damn thing! Whatever you're trying to pull, I'm not falling for it!" Kai nearly barked in retort, taking a threatening step forward as his teal optics burned in irritation. That shrill voice and those large eyes... he couldn't place a thumb on them, nor could he even bring himself to come up with any sort of recognition. There was no memory of this Sendou Aichi. And Kai didn't want to bother making a friend either. When the smaller refused to budge, he continued forward, towering over him and exuding his impatient exasperation. Ā "So MOVE."
"What are you talking about? Weāre friends!Ā Best friends!ā
The lack of recollection pointed to one thing - but forĀ Kai to be affected? This was the one person that should have been immune no matter was, wasnāt it? Shrinking back a step under the cold gaze from those teal hues, Aichi felt a shiver race down his back and any confidence shrivel into nothing.
"Wh- What do you mean āthemā? Kai-kun, y- you⦠You donāt remember me?"
Ā "I've never seen you before in my life; Get out of the way." Kai's voice was filled with pure vehemency; He was exhausted and sore, and the last thing he wanted to do was humor this little shortstop. "I'm not in the mood for screwing around."
