"the radiant blue one in your hand right now, his name is absolem. he does not socialize as much as the other hedgehogs do. the orange one is a new additition to our hedgehogs. i have named him hamish and-" riddle paused his words to glance up at you. "i'm sorry, prefect. am i perhaps boring you?"
you shook your head. despite your fingers scratching the belly of the blue hedgehog you were holding, your full attention was on the housewarden in front of you. "you are not. please, continue. what about hamish?"
riddle cleared his throat, cheeks tinged red.
"yes, well, hamish is quite the troublemaker as he still is very young. he bit one of my first years during feeding time."
the tyrant of a housewarden glanced up at you once more, his palms becoming uncomfortably sweaty. riddle really needed to calm his heart rate, spending time with you was not ideal for his blood pressure.
"ascot is quite the character as well. i likes to find his way out of the cage during unbirthday parties."
"he just wants to explore..." you cooed softly as you set the blue hedgehog down, who you now know was named absolem, before reaching to gently pick up a pink one.
"when the hedgehogs are used during croquet, does it hurt them?" your question rang in riddle's ears as you looked up at him. the tips reddened, and he hoped you couldn't see how their now-rouge colour just so happened to match the colour of his hair...
"excellent question, prefect. it does not hurt the little ones nor harm them in the long run. queen of hearts rule 349; all members of the dorm must treat the hedgehogs with the utmost care and strike them in the correct place on their bodies as to not cause any harm."
"may i join in a game sometime, then?"

"yes, you may. there shall be a match at next week's unbirthday party. i shall make sure to inform trey to reserve you a flamingo and-"
you shifted closer to him. "no, riddle. may i play with just you?"
oh great sevens, that sounded like a date to the poor boy!
the rouge in his ears spread to his cheeks as riddle tried his best as to tug on his collar for more air.
